Police said Wednesday they have launched an internal review into a Monday afternoon arrest in which a Springfield officer appeared to hit a suspect in the head several times. The Springfield Police Department said it released a dashcam video of the arrest on Wednesday to provide more context to a minute-long video of the incident that had been circulating on social media. According to police, the incident occurred just after 12:30 p.m. Monday in the 1900 block of North Lyon Avenue. Police say that's where they stopped 42-year-old Gregory Robinson after Robinson allegedly pointed a gun at a woman in the area. A news release from the police department says Robinson did not comply with commands from officers to get out of his vehicle. Believing Robinson was armed, officers opened the door and tried to remove him from the vehicle. The release says police used a Taser on Robinson, but he continued to resist and reach for his waistband (where police later found two guns), so officers used physical force to subdue him. Police say Robinson also had a "large amount" of meth in the car and made threats about killing police officers during the arrest and jail booking process. Robinson was charged this week with three counts of unlawful use of a weapon, resisting arrest, drug trafficking and two counts of unlawful possession of a firearm. He is being held in the jail on $100,000 bond and does not have an attorney listed for this case.
