Wild, Wild West: 16 Year Old Destroys Cop Car

Wichata -- A 16-year-old boy intentionally rammed two police patrol vehicles and hospitalized two officers early Tuesday morning after a call in north Wichita about people breaking into unlocked vehicles, officer Charley Davidson said. The teen was arrested on suspicion of two counts of aggravated battery on an officer. The officers were taken to the hospital with minor injuries before being released, Davidson said. The incident started with police being called at around 3:40 a.m. to an apartment complex in the 3500 block of North Inwood, which is near K-96 and Rock. The caller said multiple people in a Dodge Durango and Chevrolet Silverado were going into unlocked vehicles. Responding officers spotted the Durango and attempted to stop the driver, who "refused to stop, accelerated and led officers on a short vehicle pursuit," Davidson said.

Snake wrangler dances to hypnotise king cobra and make it easier to catch

This is the amazing moment a skilful snake wrangler captured a deadly king cobra by dancing with it. Resident Utane Sakworapong found the 6ft-long snake hiding among the dried leaves in his fruit farm in Chanthaburi province, Thailand on January 27. The snake was aggressive and ready to strike when provoked so the farmer called the animal rescuers for help. He thought that the rescuers would hunt the reptile down with a pole and rope, but the team that responded had a unique way of handling animals. One of the rescuers, Suthat Thobudee, stood close to the snake while keeping a safe distance between him and the animal. The professional reptile handler stared at the cobra and began swaying his head sideways appearing to hypnotise it. First, he stared at the snake, moving his neck back and forth while moving his feet in coordination. Rescuer Suthat said: 'This way of capturing the snake is used to distract them from their surroundings and keep their attention. 'If done properly, they will only be focusing on what's in front of them instead so it's easier for us to catch the snake.'

An animal rescue team demonstrated how to properly charm a king cobra amid increasing numbers of snake sightings due to the cold season. Footage shows a professional reptile catcher taming a snake and pinning it in a free training in Ang Thong province, Thailand on January 27. The Ang Thong Rescue Team increased their efforts to train volunteers after several king cobras and other venomous snakes have been found inside homes. Ratha Tapianthong, the female snake wrangler in the video, showed colleagues her techniques learned over the years. She first stood in front of the aggressive snake calmly before bending over to touch its head slowly and eventually pinning it down. Ratha said: 'We want to teach more people to catch snakes because during the cold, dry season more snakes are entering people's houses.' The team has recorded an increase of snakes invading homes as the animals search for warmer places to shelter in during the cold season. Aside from taming the snake, other volunteers helped her catch the cobra using a pole with a noose to secure its neck. After the demonstration, other snake catchers tried the technique with supervision and they were able to grab its neck and body. State meteorologist Phuwiang Prakhammin said that winter will be colder and longer than previous years. He expected the cool season to last for approximately 122 days until mid-February, with average lows of 20C to 21C nationwide throughout the entire season, however, temperatures are much lower in northern parts of Thailand. The different species of cobras are responsible for tens of thousands of deaths each year across the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia.

Wild monitor lizard rescued after getting stuck in tiny gap behind wall

Animal rescuers had to demolish part of a home's wall to save a huge monitor lizard stuck between the narrow gap. The hapless reptile was heard scratching around inside the crack on the wall of an old house in Phetchabun province, Thailand on January 30. House owner Padapa Pannil, 46, tried to scare it away by poking, but it did not budge so she realised it was trapped. She called the rescue team for help but they had difficulty hooking the animal's neck as it trapped too deeply. As a last resort, they asked permission to tear parts of the wall down so they could save the reptile and the kind house owner agreed. The team used hammers to smash the concrete wall and soon after the lizard was free. The rescue operation lasted for three hours as the team had to minimise the damage on the wall. They were able to save the 3ft-long lizard that weighed three kilograms and immediately secured its neck with a pole to prevent it from escaping. It was pulled out of the hole and was taken by the rescuers to be released into the wild. Padapa thanked the rescuers who left with the animal. She said she's going to use her house number in her lottery ticket as animal encounters are believed to be lucky. She said: 'I am relieved that we were able to save the animal. I hope it's going to bring me some luck too when I join the lottery.'

A brave policeman climbed a ladder to save a stranded python that was tangled in power lines. Officers from the nearby police station responded after residents noticed the snaked in Bangkok, Thailand, on January 30. The reptile had been in nearby tress when it tried to cross the cables before getting into difficulty. To prevent itself from falling, it coiled around the black high voltage lines but ended up stuck. Officers from Nong Khang Phlu Police Academy cut the electricity then pitched a ladder to reach the python and began untangling the creature. They pressed the ladder against a firetruck while four officers supported it from below. One of the cops climbed to the top and began unravelling the snake from the cable using his bare hands. In less than half an hour, the team was able to save the reptile and took it to the station so it could be released into the wild later. Onlookers cheered when the snake was saved, thanking the kind officers who volunteered to help the animal. Police Lieutenant Colonel Phanakon Wongphinit, who helped with the rescue, said: 'We don't just catch criminals, we can rescue animals, too. When people ask for help, it's our duty to be there for them.'

Fisherman tilt boats sideways to pass under low bridge

Creative Thai fishermen tilt down their boats to pass through a low bridge blocking their path. The bridge was built for easier access between villages separated by rivers, but its low height had blocked some of the larger fishing boats in Nakhon Si Thammarat, Thailand. Over time, the fishermen have developed a technique to let them pass through and reach the Pak Phanang river's fishing grounds. Footage from January 29 shows two fishermen standing on one side of the ship using their weight.to tilt it sideways and deeper into the water. With the boat tilted down, it was low enough to pass under the concrete road bridge. One of the fishermen who lives in the area said they smaller boats would easily pass through but not the bigger vessels. He said: 'It takes a special technique if the ship is bigger. We need to level its height using our weight so we can pass through.'

A Thai couple who lost their jobs due to the Covid-19 downturn have started a business delivering takeaway meals - on horseback. Pirote Jobsri and Pimpanit Poytitat both had jobs but struggled financially when the pandemic hit in Uthai Thani province. The husband, Pirote, worked at a car cleaning service which closed down as fewer customers came to their shop when the travel bans were imposed. Meanwhile, the wife, Pimpanit, worked as a teacher but schools closed to prevent spreading the coronavirus. Distressed about their finances, the couple decided to open a business instead. They wanted to open a Korean barbecue restaurant but knew it would be hard with shutdowns and restrictions still in place due in many regions. As a workaround, they used their pet horses to provide a homemade food delivery service instead, attracting customers with the unusual idea. They quickly had a steady stream of customers ordering food they cook at home in their kitcen. Aside from the barbecue set, the couple also offer horseriding lessons. The barbecue set costs 350 Baht (11.67USD) and the customers can pose with the horses and pet them after receiving their food. Delighted business owner and horse enthusiast Pirote said his pets helped them get through the pandemic. He said: 'I am relieved that we were able to bounce back despite our financial struggles with the pandemic. 'It brightens up our day to see customers enjoy our food and have fun interacting with the horses.' Thailand has recorded a relatively low 19,618 Covid-19 infections and 77 deaths but the impact on the tourism-dependent economy has been devastating.

Thailand increases border security after military takes control of Myanmar

Thailand increased its border security on Monday (February 1) as Myanmar's military took control of the country after detaining de-facto leader Aung San Suu Kyi. Footage from Chiang Rai province in the north of the country shows soldiers manning checkpoints on roads that are popular crossing points near the town of Tachilek. The extra measures in Thailand came in response to the unrest in Myanmar, where pro-military supporters held a rally in Yangon, Myanmar, on Sunday (January 31) afternoon shortly before leader Aung San Suu Kyi was detained and the army took power. They also disconnected phone and Internet services. The supporters gathered close to the Shwedagon Pagoda in the city where they marched and chanted. Large protests had been going on for the previous three days amid anger at alleged fraud in the country's disputed elections last November. The Union Election Commission (UEC) is accused of undermining the election. Following the protests, which have gathered pace since the elections, Myanmar's military later took control of the country and detained Aung San Suu Kyi and other politicians in the early hours of Monday morning. Reacting to events, The White House said it was "alarmed" by the developments in Myanmar. Spokeswoman Jen Psaki said: "We continue to affirm our strong support for Burma's democratic institutions." America called for Aung San Suu Kyi to be released and threatened to "take action against those responsible if these steps are not reversed." Myanmar was governed by Britain from 1824 to 1948, during which time it became the second-wealthiest country in Southeast Asia but following independence was ruled by the military until 2011 when democratic reforms began.

Cocker spaniel FLIES out of a car window

A dog has been filmed tumbling out of a car window as its owners drove through a roundabout. A motorist's dashcam captured footage of a Toyota Yaris driving through a roundabout, before a cocker spaniel in the backseat was flung onto the road. The dog was catapulted out of the window and landed on its head on the bitumen, while the unaware owner continued to drive before realising what had happened. The pooch, which still had its lead on, rolled a couple of times before walking along the footpath towards the car. The owners, who pulled over about 50m up the road, ran towards the cocker spaniel, which didn't appear injured. The dog wagged its tail excitedly as its owner hugged and patted it, before being put back in the car. The RSPCA can issue fines under The Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act. If an animal is injured because it was unrestrained, owners face up to six months' jail and fines of up to $5,500 AUD

Squatter living at the Chicago airport for three months gets arrested

CCTV footage shows the moment a man who lived undetected for three months at chIraq, Chicago's O'Hare International Airport was arrested while wearing a yellow safety vest. Aditya Singh, 36, was arrested on January 16 after living as a squatter in the airport for months without suspicion. Singh, who is unemployed and lived with 'roommates' in Orange, Los Angeles, had flow to Chicago on October 19 and was 'too scared to fly home to LA because of COVID,' Assistant State's Attorney Kathleen Hagerty said. Instead of leaving, Singh decided to hunker down inside a secure section of the airport. He allegedly posed as an airport worker when he was questioned by uniformed police officers outside a restroom at the airport. He was found in possession of an airport operation manager's security credential badge that was reported it missing on October 26, around the time Singh started living at the airport. Singh, who has a master's degree in hospitality and no criminal background, said he survived on food from other airport passengers. He was charged with felony criminal trespass to a restricted area of an airport and misdemeanor theft of less than $500 usd

20 firefighters are injured while fighting a four-alarm blaze

Twenty-one firefighters were hospitalized after fighting a four-alarm fire in building in New York Saturday morning. The fire broke out at a six-story building in Manhattan's Harlem neighborhood at about 7.30am Saturday. According to the FDNY Deputy Assistant Chief Christopher Bilz, when the first FDNY units arrived within four minutes of receiving the call, the fire was considered 'advanced' on the first floor of the building. The FDNY said that 200 fire and EMS personnel - 39 units - arrived at the scene to battle the four-alarm fire and get it under control around 10.10am. There were no civilian injuries, but 21 firefighters were injured, the New York Post reported. Four firefighters were transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries and 17 others were taken to other hospitals with minor injuries. The fire was said to have started in an empty apartment on the first floor of the building

US police pepper-spray a NINE-YEAR-OLD girl after a mental breakdown

Police in upstate New York pepper-sprayed a 9-year-old, bodycam videos released on Sunday show. Officers with the Rochester Police Department responded to a call for 'family trouble' and a possible stolen car around 3.30pm on Friday, the Chronicle reported. Cops were told by the girl's mother, her custodial parent, that she was suicidal and wanted to harm herself and others, according to the outlet. Cops said the girl was taken to a local hospital to receive 'the services and care that she needed,' after she was pepper-sprayed by the officers, and has since been released back to her family. The incident comes after the March 2020 death of Daniel Prude sparked protests leading city officials to partially defund the police in order to launch the Person in Crisis Team, under the Office of Crisis Intervention Service.

Dozens of foreigners including Brits and Americans arrested at Thai bar breaking Covid-19 restrictions

Dozens of tourists were arrested - including Brits and Americans - after partying at a bar flouting Covid-19 restrictions in Thailand. More than 200 Thai and foreigners attended a popular full moon party event at a beachfront bar in Kho Phangan island on January 26 evening. However, police officers had been tracking the event through social media, where the bar promoted its fifth-anniversary party. When officers arrived to raid the establishment shortly after 9pm, the party-goers fled the bar and some of them were reportedly able to escape. Those arrested 110 party-goers from more than 10 countries including the U.S. Britain, Australia, Switzerland, Denmark and Thailand. Footage shows how the revellers - many of them backpackers and ex-pats - were dancing, drinking and ignoring social distancing rules. Bars had also been banned from opening under strict guidelines rolled out last December following a surge of cases across the country. Police Colonel Suparerk Pankosol, superintendent of the provincial immigration office, said bars are not yet allowed to operate beyond 9 pm during the pandemic. He said: 'Every venue has to follow the rules, even if it is their fifth anniversary. The event risked spreading Covid-19 and the organisers will be prosecuted.' Officers were able to detain 110 people, 89 of whom were from more than ten countries including the U.S., UK, Australia, Switzerland, and Denmark. They were taken to the police station for questioning on suspicion of violating the state emergency act, which carries fines of up to 40,000 baht ($1,330). The bar owner and her workers could also be charged with violating the Communicable Disease Act which is punishable by imprisonment of up to a year and a fine of up to 100,000 baht ($3,330).

Senate Democrats reintroduce DC statehood bill

A group of Senate Democrats led by Sen. Tom Carper (D-Del.) reintroduced legislation to give Washington, D.C., statehood on Wednesday, marking the first major effort to push toward statehood since the Capitol riot earlier this month. The bill, which was first introduced in 2013, would give citizens of the District full authority over local issues, as well as grant them full representation in Congress. "This isn't a Republican or Democratic issue; it's an American issue because the lack of fair representation for D.C. residents is clearly inconsistent with the values on which this country was founded," Carper said in a statement. Washington, D.C., is home to roughly 700,000 residents, a population that is larger than both Wyoming and Vermont. However, Republicans argue the effort is a push to expand Democratic interests on Capitol Hill. Critics also argue that the push goes against the 23rd Amendment, which gives D.C. residents the right to vote in presidential elections, but gives them as much say as the "least populous State."

I lost $700 in minutes at GameStop

Having watched this battle play out all day. I am more than confident to say that a series of Whales have come to battle alongside with us retail shareholders. The Amount of volume and the amount of capital that was thrown at this stock today was nothing short of remarkable. The battle started at 11:01am EST, when the first short attack began, and the stock was able to find the floor at about $97.02. What followed was absolutely mind blowing. For the next nearly two hours there was a series of extremely systematic buying. I have absolutely no doubt in my mind that the whales have come to our aid. If you look at the chart below you will see that every 45 minutes there is a short attack of some sort and that attack is was denied every single time. Now I am not doubting at all in the strenght of out community, but the only folks out there with this much capital are other insitututions that want in on this historical event. Game Stop Investors Faked me out, I bought 50 shares at $113 and sold at $100 / share with the massive drops and guess what GME rises back up to $120...Is this Manipulation at its finest? Kyle Rittenhouse Wants Therapy

The Chicago Tribune reported that the police video shows Rittenhouse sobbing and hyperventilating. Investigators reminded him of his right to remain silent. Rittenhouse, who once participated in programs for aspiring officers, replied, "I know Miranda," and said he wanted a lawyer. Police left him in the interrogation room with his mother, Wendy Rittenhouse, who spent the next several hours scrolling through her phone. At one point she put her head in her hands and lamented about people posting derogatory remarks about both of them on Facebook. His mother told him he needed to deactivate his social media accounts. "'I have to get rid of social media?" he asked. "Yep ... 'Cause they're going to harass you if they can find you anywhere," she said. Rittenhouse said he couldn't give her access to some accounts because the passwords were stored in his phone, which police had taken. He later asked an officer if detectives could delete his accounts. The officer said he would look into it. In the audible portions of the video, Rittenhouse didn't ask about the men he shot. He also didn't appear to understand the seriousness of the situation, asking an officer if he could go home and if he could get counseling to help him cope. "I don't want to be one of those people that lives with PTSD the rest of their life," he said. Last week, a judge ordered Rittenhouse to have no contact with known white supremacists after he was seen drinking in a bar in Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin, and posing for a photo with two men who made hand gestures used by white supremacists. Prosecutors also alleged men at the tavern serenaded Rittenhouse with the anthem of the Proud Boys, a neo-fascist group. The legal drinking age in Wisconsin is 21 but Rittenhouse could legally drink alcohol because he was with his mother.

This is the moment a faithful English mastiff, Dexter, remembered his recently deceased owner, David Browning, when his granddaughter, Xandria Browning, played guitar in Delaware County, Ohio. David used to play music for Dexter, and as Xandria plays "Appointments" by American singer Julien Baker on her guitar, Dexter reacts with sadness when he places his head on her lap as he misses David. "Wait til the end for the cutest thing ever (also the way he looks at me)," xandria.b captioned the video on social media. She later told Newsflare: "My grandfather passed away recently, and his dog used to love when he'd play for him, so I played him a song." David had Dexter for 10 years and was inseparable, according to Xandria. "Dexter would whine and cry every time my grandpa had to leave for Cleveland (as he had many many doctor appointments there due to his lung health). He would sleep by his door every night until he came home, and he was extremely depressed when my grandpa passed. ... Music is the only thing that makes him really happy and calm again."
