Model cause outcry with nude photo overlooking the Western Wall

Marisa Papen from Belgium posed naked recently for a photograph overlooking the Western Wall in the Old City of Jerusalem. Marisa posted the provocative photograph on her website last week, along with others taken by photographer Mathias Lambrecht, during a visit to Israel. In the photograph, Papen leans back on a white plastic chair above a rooftop looking out over the Western Wall and adjoining plaza. "I knew that I wanted to push the boundaries of religion and politics even further," Marisa said in her blog, after referring to an incident in September 2017, when she spent a night in an Egyptian jail after posing naked for photographs at the Luxor archaeological site. "Breaking down the walls that have been build to keep all our wandering souls on this planet somehow under control," she wrote. "With other words, showing my personal religion in a world where freedom is becoming a very luxurious thing." The picture, along with others from the visit to Israel, are on display in the Frank Rose Gallery in Knokke, Belgium, in an exhibit titled "Road to Liberation." Papen said she was on a three-day trip to Israel that included visits to the Dead Sea, Tel Aviv, and Jerusalem. The model wrote that the photo was taken on Israel's 70th Independence Day - apparently snapped around May 14, the anniversary of Israel's founding and the day that the US opened its embassy in Jerusalem. It was also the day after Israel marked Jerusalem Day, which celebrates the reunification of the city after the 1967 Six Day War. The Western Wall Heritage Foundation, which administers the Western Wall prayer area and plaza, told the Yedioth daily that the shoot was a grave incident, while noting that the photograph was taken on "one of the rooftops overlooking the Temple Mount and the Western Wall and not, God forbid, in the Western Wall plaza." Western Wall Rabbi Shmuel Rabinovich said, "This is an embarrassing incident, grave and lamentable, which offends the sanctity of the site and the feelings of those who visit the holy places." Papen said that she did not specifically come to the country with the intention of taking the Western Wall photo, but knew she wanted to make some religious statement that would push the boundaries. The model had visited Israel 5 years ago and said she was impressed with how three religions managed to coexist in Jerusalem's tiny Old City. Papen recalled that the sun was so hot that it made the plastic chair she was sitting on flexible, enabling her to lean far back, at a precarious angle. "It was perfect, like it was made for me to sit on it," she said. She said she did not intend to offend anyone with the picture. "I'm sorry for that," she said. "My intention was to make people see their bodies and the human body in a different way. The human body is a beautiful thing." Photos: Posing infront of the Western Wall, Dome of the Rock, The Dead Sea, and the The Old City rooftop overlooking the Western Wall from which the photo was taken Video: Ynet interview with the nude model (starts at 0:10)

EU 'migration summit': big on promises, short on detail

Right after they reached an end-of-the-night agreement on migration on Friday morning (29 June), EU leaders hailed a compromise they said addressed all dimensions of the issue: external, internal and border protection. But past the initial satisfaction of avoiding a political failure, the summit conclusions appear big on ideas and short on details, with old proposals rehashed, postponed internal asylum reforms, and vague new plans to create migrant centres within and outside the EU. "It is far too early to talk about a success," European Council president Donald Tusk noted on Friday. He pointed out that the agreement was "in fact the easiest part of the task, compared to what awaits us on the ground, when we start implementing it." On the so-called 'leaders' agenda' of putting the EU back on track after the financial, migration and Brexit crisis, the summit was billed to reach a political consensus on the reform of the Dublin regulation, which determines who is responsible for processing international applications for asylum. But at the last minute, a political rebellion in Germany against chancellor Angela Merkel and threats by Italy's new government to stop taking migrants changed the meeting's focus. EU leaders, in a compromise between those for and against another deadline, decided to review the progress of the asylum reform at their next summit in October. Other issues, such as how long the country of first entry takes responsibility for the people that have been registered in it once they reach the European Union, also remain unresolved. For some, the broken EU internal asylum machinery lays at the heart of the political impasse as people seek out EU states where they have a much greater chance of being granted international protection. That asylum lottery is among the reasons why asylum seekers from Afghanistan go to Sweden or Germany rather than Bulgaria and why internal border checks are popping up. Migrant centres - is it new and will it work? The novelty of the summit appears to be the creation of so-called controlled centres in Europe, as part of larger plan to roll out 'regional disembarkation platforms' in north Africa and possibly elsewhere. No north African state appears interested, yet Morocco is now being promised EU money given the recent upsurge of arrivals in Spain. The European Commission also admitted not a single state in Africa had come forward. Tunisia, earlier this month, flat out rejected such ideas out of fears it would create a pull factor. Leaders tasked their ministers and the European Commission "to swiftly explore the concept of regional disembarkation platforms". As for the controlled centres on a voluntary basis in EU, nobody has yet agreed to host such a facility. Nobody knows where they will be set up, what they will do, and how they will operate. Macron's baby French president Emmanuel Macron, the initiator of the plan, admitted that the agreement was "only a step forward" with more work ahead to implement it. The premise remains basic. People in need of protection will get help, either through relocation within the EU or resettlement from outside the EU, while people considered as economic migrants will be returned home. Such returns either require a readmission agreement with the help of a much bigger EU border agency Frontex, or special deals coordinated by the International Organization for Migration. The EU is discussing readmission with Morocco but has yet to reach any agreement with any north African state. The European Commission is set to expand the Frontex mandate, shore up border guards, and come forward with a new proposal on returns. Merkel's 'European' response: bilateral pacts Behind all the talks was Merkel's domestic situation and the pressure on the summit to hand her a "European solution". Merkel's supposed Bavarian ally and interior minister Horst Seehofer, in his appeals to secure far-right voters in local elections in October, announced he would turn away asylum seekers with registered claims elsewhere. It meant clamping down the German-Austrian border, while Merkel feared this could trigger the downfall of the Schengen passport free area. Seehofer gave Merkel at two-week deadline to find a European solution to the issue. She found her response in article 36 of the Dublin regulation, which says EU states can set up bilateral "administrative arrangements" to speed up take back requests of asylum applicants. During the summit, Merkel was more busy trying to convince colleagues to agree to bilateral agreements than delving into the details of the broader agreement, sources said. But for her, the controlled centres were a "missing piece in the puzzle" to reconcile calls for tightening EU's external borders and the need to keep internal borders open. On Friday, she told reporters in Brussels that Greece and Spain were ready to accept returned asylum seekers and offered to send German border police to Slovenia and Bulgaria. She said she would continue "to strive for bilateral agreements" and brief her coalition later in the day on a possible similar deal with Austria. Old promises and new EU budget Merkel also congratulated Turkey for its work on Syrian refugees. The country, under an increasingly authoritarian grip of president Erdogan, will now be receiving another EUR3bn for the so-called "facility for refugees in Turkey". The money is part of a 2016 EU-Turkey agreement to stop refugees from leaving Turkey to Greece. Leaders also agreed to transfer EUR500m from EU development to the EU Trust Fund for Africa, set up to tackle the root cause of migration. The nearly EUR3bn fund is short EUR1.2bn and comes amid EU leader declarations to increase private investments in Africa. It also demands a new fund under the EU budget talks over the next seven years that will stem irregular migration. "This is an instrument dedicated, a facility which is dedicated exclusively to the problem of migration, to the issue of stemming the flows and it should be a part of the EU budget," an EU official told reporters earlier this week. Visegrad victory? The leaders of the Visegrad countries - Hungary, Slovakia, Poland and Czech Republic - portrayed the summit's results as a victory. Their aim was to make sure there would be no mandatory relocation, which they have been fiercely opposing since 2015. On Friday, they agreed to the controlled centres in Europe - something they saw as a pull factor for migrants - but got guaranteed that resettlement or relocation would happen on a voluntary basis. "There was a threat that from the controlled centres they will distribute the migrants across European countries. But we have fought back this proposal and our own proposal was accepted," Hungary's Viktor Orban said in a Facebook post. "This clearly states that nobody can be moved to another country without the consent of the country from the refugee camps. Hungary will not be an immigrant country, it will remain a Hungarian country," he added. 'Positions were at first irreconcilable, between an Italian political crisis, a german political crisis and a strong tension coming from the Visegrad countries," Macron pointed out. "We could move forward because we all made some concessions." But the agreement will now have to stand the test of reality. On Friday morning, far-right interior minister Matteo Salvini threatened again to leave Italian ports closed all summer, despite the agreement. | http://bit.ly/2Km2bxV

Arab journalist says there is no comparison between dire Arab jails to far more impressive Israel's prisons

Yousef Alawnah, a journalist from Jordan, who was once jailed in Israel told a Saudi TV outlet this month that he was ashamed to compare the dire conditions in prisons in the Arab world to the far more impressive conditions in Israeli jails. Alawnah, who previously spent 30 months in an Israeli prison for smuggling explosives, told Saudi 24 it was like being incarcerated in an "institute of education," where inmates were given an opportunity to acquire culture, to read and to study many things. "I am ashamed by [the comparison] between Israeli and Arab prisons," he said in the June 12 interview, translated this week by MEMRI. Alawnah was particularly impressed with the extensive prison libraries in Israel; he told the interviewer they also had books in Arabic. "They have all the important books, history books, books against Israel and against Zionism... Even Hitler's Mein Kampf is there," he said. Alawnah - who MEMRI said wrote for the Kuwaiti press for many years but was deported two years ago after criticizing Shiite leader Ayatollah Ali Al-Sistani - went on to say that political prisoners in other parts of the Middle East, especially in Syria, are certainly not afforded such luxuries. "The prisoners held in the dungeons of the Syrian regime... Do you think that they have books?" In Alawnah's interview, he also criticized the Arab world for the widespread violence in the region, saying the Israel has not caused as many deaths as Iran has in recent years. "Consider what the Arabs have done to one another. If the Jews occupied Syria or Iraq, would they do all those things?" he said. "Have the Jews killed as many as Iran's militias killed in Mosul or in Aleppo? No." Photos: Palestinian security prisoners in Israeli jails

Trump was reportedly surprised by the number of US troops stationed in Germany and expressed interest in pulling some of them out The US Defense Department is reportedly analyzing the cost-to-benefit ratio of a large-scale withdrawal or transfer of US troops in Germany. Trump, who has had a tenuous relationship with the German chancellor Angela Merkel, was said to have been surprised by the number of US troops stationed there. Some US officials were said to have tried to dissuade Trump from taking action. European officials were reportedly alarmed at the possibility of US troop movements - some of whom wondered whether Trump might use it as a negotiation tactic. The National Security Council has downplayed the report. The US Defense Department is reportedly analyzing whether or not it is feasible to conduct a large-scale withdrawal or transfer of US troops in Germany, according to a Washington Post report published on Friday. President Donald Trump reportedly mulled the option after meeting with military aides earlier this year, US officials said in the report. Trump, who has had a tenuous relationship with the German chancellor Angela Merkel, was said to have been surprised by the number of US troops stationed in the region. Some US officials were said to have tried to dissuade Trump from taking action. Around 35,000 active-duty troops were stationed in Germany last year. US troop levels peaked at 274,119 in 1962, 17 years after World War II. In addition to the US presence in Germany, Trump was reportedly vexed by his belief that other NATO countries were not contributing enough to the organization. Trump has frequently vented his frustration and criticized NATO members for failing to abide by the 2%-of-GDP defense-spending level that members agreed to during the alliance's inception. US Army soldiers troops Germany training exerciseMembers of Bull Troop, 1st Squadron, 2nd Cavalry, prepare to engage a multinational force while taking part in a quick-deployment exercise during Allied Spirit VI at Joint Multinational Readiness Center, Hohenfels Training Area, Germany, March 25, 2017.(U.S. Army photo by Sgt. William Frye) European officials were reportedly alarmed at the possibiity of US troop movements - some of whom wondered whether Trump might use it as a negotiation tactic. The National Security Council downplayed the significance and said it had not asked for a formal analysis on repositioning troops: "The Pentagon continuously evaluates US troop deployments," a statement from the NSC said, according to The Post. The statement added that the "analysis exercises" were "not out of the norm." "The Pentagon regularly reviews force posture and performs cost-benefit analyses," Eric Pahon, a spokesman for the Pentagon, said in a statement to The Post. "This is nothing new. Germany is host to the largest US force presence in Europe - we remain deeply rooted in the common values and strong relationships between our countries. We remain fully committed to our NATO ally and the NATO alliance." But despite repeated denials of a rift between US and NATO countries, Trump has suggested withdrawing from the 29-member alliance on multiple occasions. "My statement on NATO being obsolete and disproportionately too expensive (and unfair) for the U.S. are now, finally, receiving plaudits," Trumps said during his 2016 presidential campaign on Twitter. Trump has similarly suggested pulling US troops out of South Korea. Citing several people familiar with the discussions, The New York Times reported in May that he had ordered the Pentagon to prepare options for a drawdown. "We lose money on trade, and we lose money on the military," Trump said in a speech March. "We have right now 32,000 soldiers on the border between North and South Korea," Trump added. "Let's see what happens."

Greek leader protests against migrant crimes

The Greek leader of the municipality of Moria on the island of Lesbos, Mr Trakelis, started a hunger strike protesting outside of the Aegean and Island Policy General Secretariat, Protothema . The reason for this were the severe hygiene and security problems that the locals are facing for the past three years, living next to the largest refugee camp in Greece. A few days ago, migrants started a fire, burning down 10 acres of olive trees. This was the last straw for the residents of Moria. That incident made the head of the community start his hunger strike. Holding a sign that read "MORIA SOS, SOLUTION NOW" Mr Trakelis stated: "We can't take it anymore. From the year 2015 on, we are experiencing a complete disaster in our village. Inside the camp the sanitation facilities are built for 800 people, and right now 8000 people are living there. The sewage is poured into the nearby rivers and ends up in the sea passing through our properties. There is garbage everywhere, dirt and mosquitoes. Every notion of safety and hygiene is ruined in our village." According to Mr Trakelis every time he meets with the members of the government they promise him to get rid of the camp but nothing happens at all. "Everybody is fooling us... Everybody, the government and the EU are fooling us.... The residents are ready to take the law into their hands. We are trying to keep the local municipality accountable, to preserve any social cohesion that has remained within our people..." Mr Trakelis states that he will remain outside the Aegean and Island Policy General Secretariat, which represents the island of Lesbos. "The state finally needs to start working, we don't seek anything else but for the government to defend our lives and our properties as every state is obliged to do for its citizens... no more promises, we need actions....." | http://bit.ly/2Kx8cr0

Israelis stand in solidarity with Gaza

On June 26th. Israeli settlers posted the images of Palestinians killed during the Great Return March on Gaza fence with Israel. It took only a few minutes for a military jeep to arrive carrying soldiers, who demanded the activists take down the pictures. The soldiers did not seem to grasp the nature of the protest. When one of the activists asked a soldier about the people in the pictures hung on the fence, he did not answer. "These are the people you murdered over the past months," the activist answered for the soldier as he departed - without taking down the photos, which remained attached to the fence. Similar actions took place last week. Israeli activists hung pictures of the slain Palestinian demonstrators in front of the Knesset and on Rothschild Boulevard in the heart of Tel Aviv.

"British Walter White" dies in Thailand police chase

A retired British businessman who became a real-life Walter White leading a double life selling meth was killed this week after a high-speed police chase. David Sewell, 60, (David John Sewell) moved to Udon Thani, Thailand, several years ago where he began dealing drugs to other bored expats and pensioners. During the day he appeared to live a normal life - visiting Buddhist temples, handing out food to the region's poor, and looking after the family's pet bulldog. While the trader's Thai wife, Maen, 47, with whom he had one daughter, said she thought he was out drinking with pals when he disappeared each night in his unassuming grey Honda Civic. But local cops became suspicious when they saw David acting strangely while parked up on a roadside on Thursday evening with the door open. They walked over to speak to him but he panicked - with a large bag of cannabis, 80 methamphetamine pills, five bags of crystal meth and seven bags of cocaine on the front passenger seat. Several police cars gave chase at speed for more than 10km before David ploughed into the back of an 18-wheel truck on a motorway at 9pm. He was rushed to hospital but was later pronounced dead. Officers said the drugs were stashed inside empty smartphone boxes. They believe that David, who ran an importing and exporting business, had been regularly selling them to other elderly expats who had retired to the sleepy rural region with their Thai wives. Police Lieutenant Colonel Pattanawong Janpon, deputy chief of Udon Thani Provincial Police Station, said: ''We saw a car

Amid the fierce fighting in southern Syria, IDF is gearing up to prevent a mass breach of the Golan border by thousands of refugees

Israel is preparing for the possibility that the latest onslaught in southern Syria could see tens of thousands of refugees heading for the Israel border. The IDF is gearing up to prevent a mass breach of the frontier, but also started to provide humanitarian aid to the displaced. With Russia's help, Assad's army has battered the south for more than a week with air strikes, rocket fire and crude barrel bombs, forcing more than 50,000 people to flee in search of safety. Many of them have fled toward the border with Israel, saying it was the safest since the regime wouldn't dare strike in that area to avoid confrontation with Israel. Most of the 50,000-plus people who already fled have headed to the sealed Jordanian border. Officials in Nawa issued a statement asking Jordan to take in refugees. But Amman has said the border will remain closed. The kingdom already hosts more than 650,000 registered refugees and estimates the actual number is more than a million. With Jordan closed, Jerusalem fears they could head to the Israeli border. While only several dozen refugees had set up tent camps near the Israeli frontier in the town of Quneitra as of Thursday, Israel was preparing for a range of scenarios, the sources said. One possible development feared by Israel was masses of refugees banding together to try and break through the border fence, Hadashot news reported. Security officials feared that in such a scenario, armed militants could also try to sneak among them into the country. "No refugee from Syria will enter Israel, but we will help where we can on the humanitarian level," a senior official was quoted as saying by Channel 10 news. In recent years, Israel has given extensive humanitarian support to civilians on the Syrian side of the border. Israel has provided food and medicine, and thousands of wounded have entered Israel for life-saving medical treatment. Photos: Refugees at southern Syria, and IDF humanitarian aid sent yesterday for the refugee camps on the Golan border

WWI Sinking The Battleship SMS Szent Istv'an

This film shows the capsize of the SMS Szent Istv'an in 1918. The Austro-Hungarian battleship had been intercepted by two Italian MAS boats and subsequently sank. Most of the ships crew managed to escape due to the Austrian navy's mandate that all of its sailors be taught to swim, which was actually a bit unusual for navies of that era. The film itself was taken by Austrian naval personnel from the SMS Tegetthoff which was nearby.

From the OP: This clip shows an accident at night in Newport Town as a pedestrian is hit running across the road by a taxi. The sound of the impact is incredible. Beijing Subway

What do people talk about when they talk about Beijing? Well, there are plenty of topics. As a city with a 800 plus years of history, and as the Chinese capital city since 1421 BC, there are countless things to explore, from the Forbidden City to street snacks, to the great wall and even folk crafts... You name it. But its rich historical heritage sometimes leads to people ignoring that fact that Beijing is also a super metropolitan city, with a population of more than 30 million! Living in the city, there are facilities you need to use every day. They slowly become symbols attached to the city, one example is the subway. If you decide to visit Beijing, besides a credit card and some basic daily Mandarin Chinese expressions, the next most important thing you will need every day is the subway. COMMENTARY: Donald Trump didn't light Canada's political dumpster fire He didn't light USA either, it was smouldering already

Once upon a time, in an era before Trump was elected president of the United States, Canadians were innocently unaware of the notion of deceitful political tricks, there were no dog whistle politics, and everyone got along wonderfully. Then Donald Trump came along, and all of a sudden our political sphere took a sharp turn into the dumpster, where it quickly caught fire. At least that's what some seem to be claiming in Canada - that our political discourse was completely benign until the malignancy of Trump metastasized its way past the border, infecting our politics. In fact, Americans have made a similar argument with respect to their own political discourse: Trump came along and simply changed the game for the worse. And while I'm certainly not blind to the fact that Trump has single-handedly eroded certain political norms, and has a penchant for saying and doing things no other president would have ever done, the reality is that Trump is the natural progression of where American politics had been heading. We witnessed the demise of the GOP's principles as year after year of Republican campaigns placated an aging, predominantly white voting base with thinly-veiled and xenophobia. After years of alienating key voting blocs, such as single women, Hispanics and African Americans, the Republican Party has now been freed from having to resort to dog whistle politicking under Trump. And while it can be tempting to blame our own current political climate on a man who launched his way into the Oval Office with no respect for the truth or facts, the reality is that our own politics have been headed toward that burning dumpster for a while. Trump didn't come to Canada before he was elected president and bully the federal Conservatives into coming up with the barbaric cultural practices tip line, or into making the niqab an election issue. Nor did Trump force the contenders in the Conservative leadership race to shore up support among Islamophobes by attacking a non-binding parliamentary motion condemning Islamophobia, weeks after six men had been gunned down in a Quebec City mosque for the mere fact that they were Muslim. And as far as I know, Trump had no hand in forcing many Conservatives to appear on The Rebel multiple times or the party to appoint The Rebel's founding director to manage the next Conservative campaign. No, this has all been the genius of Canadian conservatives themselves. We don't need to compare our politicians to Trump or other outrageous American politicians in order to recognize that our own political discourse is becoming poisoned, and social media is making it exponentially worse. I don't for a second deny that Canadian political history is rife with examples of low blows, hysterical hyperbole, and misleading campaigns, but our future is faced with polarizing algorithms, decreasing face-to-face communications, and a frightening predilection for anti-intellectualism. Earlier this week, Chantal H'ebert noted in the Toronto Star that we have reached a point in our politics wherein misinformation is spread regularly, and more frighteningly, with seemingly willful intent: "Over (Andrew) Scheer's first year as leader, the Conservatives have become more and more comfortable with misrepresenting major government policies. They are not just taking short cuts with reality. They are leading their target audience astray." It's certainly true that politicians of all stripes can massage facts in a way that is ultimately advantageous to their own political goals or partisan agenda. But we should all be concerned when run of the mill partisan spin delves into the willful promotion of objectively false information. So when the leader for the official opposition tweets something that can be disproven with a working knowledge of Grade 6 math, it should be disconcerting for anyone that values truthful discourse. Don't get me wrong, I am more than sympathetic to a simple math mistake, and I think we can all admit that we've made at least one glaringly embarrassing math error at some point in our lives. Usually, though, when it's simply an error, once it is pointed out, the error is corrected. Yet despite having multiple people point out many times that the numbers simply do not back up what Scheer is saying, the tweet is still up, and no correction has been issued. What are we to make of the leader of the official opposition having absolutely no qualms with tweeting out objectively false information? Canada certainly didn't need Trump to erode our norms of political discourse; we managed to do that all on our own. But in looking to the U.S. we start to get a picture of just how much worse it can get, and our own issues can almost seem quaint by comparison. We might not have needed Trump to get to where we are today, but we might just need him to make us realize how we ought not to be. Let's not be, USA you have some self reflection to do.

Leopard takes down a Nyala in Kruger National Park

This female leopard stalked a nyala ewe inside the perimeter of a lodge at a South African game reserve The filmer captured the footage at the window of Idube Game Lodge's kitchen. "While I was on my way to work one of my colleagues stopped me in my tracks on my way to the kitchen as there was a leopard busy stalking a Nyala ewe in front of the kitchen I had to go around through the back of the kitchen. "When I entered the kitchen and just got my cell phone camera rolling she pounced onto the nyala taking it down, she then dragged it off and fed next to the pool. That night half the kill was stolen by hyenas and this made it light enough for her to hoist up into the tree, by next morning she was still in camp in a tree feeding when unexpectedly a male leopard (the father of her current cubs) stole the kill from her in the tree" said the filmer later online. Although this occurred November 2017, the video was only released this week.

Police Force out Migrant University Squatters After Staff Infected with Scabies

Police in Paris forced over 60 migrants squatting in a university building to leave after staff became infected with scabies parasites. Police removed the group of migrants from the University Paris-8 in Saint-Denis on Tuesday finding that much of the building had been covered with graffiti and some of the building had suffered heavy damage, France24 . The police were met by a human chain of 70 or so far-left activists attempting to stop them from evacuating the migrants but were able to push through and used tear gas to gain access to the site. The migrants were then led from the site onto a bus which took them to a gym in Raincy. Around 100 migrants have been squatting in the university since January 30th. Most of the squatters come from West Africa, according to , and were helped by far-left activists who turned the building into a dormitory for the migrants, assisted by the president of the university. The evacuation order came after staff at the university discovered they had been infected with the skin parasites along with the vandalisation of an administrative building several days prior which caused significant damage to the building. | http://bit.ly/2KgsLZa

Tourists in South Africa encounter a rare pangolin during walking safari

This unique video shows one of the most rarely seen animals in the African bush. During a walking safari in Kruger Park, South Africa this tour group were surprised by a wild pangolin suddenly approaching through the long grass. Pangolins are notoriously difficult to find or study because they spend much of their lives in burrows underground, and seldom come up to the surface. Their bodies are protected by an armour of overlapping brown scales, making them well equipped for self-defence, usually rolling up into a ball when threatened. The name of the pangolin comes from the Malay word, pengguling, which means 'to roll up' and describes the pangolin's habit of rolling itself into a ball when threatened.

Israel Police seize Hamas donation funds from family of dead Palestinian terrorist who massacred 8 Jewish students in 2008

Police seized thousands of dollars from the family of Alaa Abu Dheim in East Jerusalem on Wednesday, which was paid as a stipend by the Hamas group. The funds ($11,800) in Israeli and foreign currency had been given to the family of Abu Dheim, who in March 2008 shot dead 8 Jewish students, in Jerusalem's Mercaz Harav yeshiva and wounded 11 more. Abu Dheim, from the neighborhood of Jabel Mukaber, was killed during the attack by an off-duty IDF captain and a student in the yeshiva. _____ On Wednesday lawmakers gave the final go-ahead for a decisive vote on a bill that would slash tax funds to the PA by the amount Ramallah pays out to convicted terrorists. The bill, proposed by MK Elazar Stern and MK Avi Dichter, says that welfare payments paid out by the PA to Palestinian prisoners and their relatives must be deducted from tax revenues Israel transfers annually to the administrative body. The money withheld in this way would instead go into a fund designated to help victims of terror attacks. Under the current law, based on the 1994 Oslo Accords that established the PA and the mechanism for Israeli funding, the finance minister already has the ability to freeze funds. The measure, which would cut tens of millions of dollars from tax revenues transferred to the PA, is similar to a measure recently passed in the US, known as the Taylor Force Act, withholding funding to the PA over stipends to terrorists and their families. According to the Defense Ministry, the PA in 2017 $198 million to the so-called "martyrs' families fund" and $160 million to the Palestinian Prisoners' Club - some 7% of its overall budget. Robert Mugabe resigns as president of Zimbabwe

Robert Mugabe has finally resigned as president of Zimbabwe, a week after the army took over power and placed him under house arrest. A letter signed by Zimbabwe's only president since 1980 said the decision was voluntary. The Parliament confirmed receipt of the said letter and subsequently suspended impeachment processes. Mugabe, 93, has been under intense pressure at home and from outside to step down after 37 years in charge but had previously refused. BREAKING: Zimbabwe's president Robert Mugabe has resigned - says parliament speaker Jacob Mubenda- africanews (@africanews) November 21, 2017 Zimbabwe's top general said on Monday that talks were planned between President Robert Mugabe and former Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa. Mugabe's firing of Mnangagwa was at the heart of the army's takeover. Earlier today, Zimbabwe's ruling ZANU-PF resolved to bring a motion in parliament on Tuesday (November 21) to impeach Mugabe, after an earlier deadline expired for the besieged leader to resign and bring the curtain down on nearly four decades in power. There has been celebrations across the southern African country after news filtered through that Mugabe had accepted to leave. The state-run Herald Newspaper that until recently was pro-Mugabe also confirmed the resignation. #Zimbabwe - The streets of #Harare are flooded with euphoric crowds following news of Mugabe's resignation as president for more than three decades. pic.twitter.com/iNLEp8XKFM- Addis Standard (@addisstandard) November 21, 2017 My fellow citizens Robert Gabriel Mugabe has resigned. Morocco officially unveil 2026 World Cup bid [Sport]

As of today Friday 11 May, there are some 34 days left to the Russia 2018 World Cup. There are also 8 years left to the 2026 World Cup which could be heading back to Africa after Morocco officially unveiled their hosting bid. Here's a chronicling of the week in Sport:- SOUTH AFRICA: BARCA V SUNDOWNS FRIENDLY Spanish giants Barcelona are coming to Africa, South Africa precisely. Mamelodi Sundowns president Patrice Motsepe made an announcement on Thursday that the much talked about friendly match between Mamelodi Sundowns and Barcelona will officially go ahead. Sundowns are the newly-crowned champions of South Africa's Premier Soccer League while Barcelona are the new La Liga champions. The match was confirmed for FNB Stadium at 6pm on Wednesday May 16. The match will be part of Nelson Mandela's Centenary Celebrations It has also been revealed that CAF has had to move Sundowns' CAF Champions League match against Guinea's Horoya, to a later date in order for the Brazilians - as the Sundowns are nicknamed - to play Barcelona. The clash against Horoya AC was set to take place on May 15 but has since been moved to May 22. MOROCCO OFFICIALLY UNVEIL 2026 WC BID Tensions are escalating in the build-up to the 2026 World Cup bidding vote that will take place in Moscow on June 13, just a day before the 2018 World Cup kicks off on June 14. That's when we'll find out whether the World Cup will be coming back to Africa in 2026, which will be 16 years by then, after Morocco officially unveiled their bid to host the event on Wednesday. The North Africans are going up against a supremely confident and organised joint campaign from the US, Canada and Mexico. At the same time Morocco has has asked FIFA to exclude four United States-governed territories; the American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands from the vote. The Moroccan bid has chosen not to complain about U.S. President Trump's veiled threat via Twitter to no longer "support" nations who do not vote for the U.S, Canada and Mexico bid. COUNTDOWN TO RUSSIA 2018: 34 DAYS TOGO The build up to the 2018 FIFA World Cup continues. The 5 African teams representing the continent Senegal, Nigeria, Tunisia, Morocco and Egypt are neck deep and focused in the preparations. Over the next 5 weeks we'll be taking a look at quick profiles and team news of all the 5 nations. Today we'll start with the Super eagles of Nigeria, who are under the charges of German Coach Gernot Rohr. The German has brought a sense of calm to a team that went through five coaches in two years following the 2014 tournament in Brazil. Nigeria flew through qualifying and were the first team to qualify from the region unbeaten in a group that had strong challenge from Zambia, Algeria and Cameroon. Although the squads are yet to be named the Eagles will head to Russia with an array of attacking options that include big names like Victor Moses, Alex Iwobi, Kelechi Iheanacho and Ahmed Musa. Their opening game in the 2018 WC is against Croatia on June 16. They then play Iceland on June 22 before the big one to finish their Group D campaign, against Lionel Messi and Argentina in St Petersburg on June 26. Come back here again next week. Follow @muisyo_

Bizarre moment Vietnam-era war plane is lifted off garage roof

This is the bizarre moment a Vietnam war aircraft was lifted off the roof of a garage. Mechanic Charlie Choungrangsee, 48, left his wife speechless when he bought the Fairchild C-123 carrier at an auction for 400,000 baht (then equivalent to 6,500gbp) in 1990. She ordered him out of the home and refused to have it in their home - so quick-thinking Charlie plonked it on the roof of his petrol station in Bangkok, Thailand, where it has been for the last two decades. But Charlie has now had to reluctantly chop the wings off the former tank carrier - which saw some of the most fierce fights of the 1960s - and hire a crane to remove it. Charlie said he loved the carrier but due to its age it was becoming increasingly unstable when strong winds rip through the area. Footage taken on June 14 at 12:30pm shows the aeroplane being carried down from the building on the Bang Na - Trad highway and moved to the ground before it is due to be relocated. Garage boss Charlie said: ''We won a bid on this plane 18 years ago for around 400,000 baht. The plane was used to bring small tanks and weaponeries back in Vietnam war days. I had the plane as an attraction for all these years but lately, the wind power had picked up and it needs maintenance.''

Being Presidential - Heckler Edition

Not about Blue or Red - About Being Presidential................................................. I got a kick out of this one. I never cared for either of them, but there is something to be said about being Presidential, in words and actions. First six minutes are how Obummer handled hecklers, and around the 6 minute mark, Trump takes a turn. Here's my guess what the Trumpettes will say: Obama is acting like a cuck pussy. Here's my guess what the Libnutz will say: Trump is acting like a gangster punk. Maybe both are true, maybe not, but who is actually acting like a proper POTUS?

Three immigration and civil judges charged over alleged lb12.6m bogus legal aid scam.

The three judges are among nine people due to appear in court on July 17. Kareena Maciel, left, Rasib Ghaffar, centre and Razi Shah. The charges follow a two-year review by CPS lawyers of a "big and complex" probe by a Scotland Yard fraud squad. The nine include two barristers, six solicitors and a legal clerk. They are accused of fraud by misrepresentation in relation to four cases in which exorbitant and fake claims were allegedly made. The offence has a maximum ten-year jail term. The fraudulent judges were exposed by a Scotland Yard probe that took two years to complete. Those charged include part-time immigration judges Rasib Ghaffar, 48, and Kareena Maciel, 46, and part-time civil judge Razi Shah, 47. Barrister Ghaffar and solicitor wife Maciel, of Woodford, East London, decide on asylum claims and migrant appeals. Shah, of Windsor, Berks, is a solicitor advocate. Of lb12.6million allegedly claimed, lb1.4million was paid out, which police say was mostly fraudulent. The nine are due before Westminster magistrates. The case isn't the interesting part of the article, read the names. They decide if migrants can stay but have migrant background, they are both judge and jury and everybody think it's normal and even good !

British white people 'will soon be a minority in Birmingham,' council report finds

White British people will be a minority in Birmingham by the time of the next census in 2021, a report by Birmingham City Council has found. The figures were revealed in a draft cohesion policy tabled yesterday, which predicted that by 2021, less than half of the city's 1.2 million population will be 'white British'. The research found that people from over 200 countries live in Birmingham, and that among under-18s, 60% are already from a 'non white British' background. People who classify themselves as 'white British' will be a minority (Getty) The prediction is based on growth rates between the 2001 and 2011 censuses, with the percentage of people from a 'non white British' background growing by 12%. If that continues, people who classify themselves as 'white British' will be in a minority by 2021. The report also highlighted social issues related to cohesion, such as the fact that there are 47,000 people who cannot speak English in Birmingham. Birmingham also has low rates of employment, with 65% of working age residents have jobs compared to the national average of 74% in 2016. Equalities chief, Cllr Tristan Chatfield, said: 'Birmingham faces a number of difficult social issues that have an impact on cohesion; whilst these are not unique to our city, we cannot assume that national government policy will address them. A mosque stands next to a church in Lozells on March 23, 2017 in Birmingham (Getty) 'These are complex challenges and they are also rapidly evolving. 'Collectively, Birmingham should lead by example in challenging anything that prevents our citizens from reaching their full potential, including discrimination, poverty, segregation or a lack of ambition.'
