Syrian government sources have confirmed that several commanders of the al-Qaeda-linked Nusra Front have been killed in an airstrike by the army. The operation took place in the northwestern province of Idlib. Senior al-Nusra commander Abu Humam al-Shami is said to have been killed in the attack. Syrian state-run news agency SANA said at least three other al-Nusra commanders including Abu Omar al-Kurdi were killed in the airstrike. Al-Nusra Front is one of the foreign-backed militant groups fighting against the Syrian government. It has already been blamed for carrying out terrorist activities in the country.
