An Orange County jail inmate has testified in court that a sheriff's deputy gave him a homemade knife with instructions to stab former inmate Joshua Waring, the son of a "Real Housewives" star. Korrell Cole, testifying under penalty of perjury, said he kept the knife but did not follow through on the attack. Waring was eventually slashed with a razor by another inmate and has sued deputies for allegedly trying to kill him. Cole's testimony is the first independent corroboration of Waring's accusations against deputies. Waring, the son of "Real Housewives of Orange County" cast member Laurie Peterson, was jailed for nearly four years while awaiting trial on charges of shooting a man in 2016 outside a sober living home in Costa Mesa. He pleaded guilty in March to lesser charges and was released with time served. While he was in custody, Waring's defense team triggered a national scandal after discovering that the jail's telephone vendor recorded nearly 34,000 confidential attorney-client calls - in violation of state law and legal tenets. Waring alleged the attack on his life was in retaliation for his whistleblowing. In a suit filed in April, Waring alleged that after he complained about the eavesdropping he noticed that mail from his attorney was being opened by jailers. When he brought it up to Deputy Ever Zelaya, he was told, "I'll choke your bitch ass out and get a promotion."
