Body Cam Footage Released in Hayward Police Shooting

A man in his 60s was hospitalized Wednesday after a Hayward police officer shot him in his driveway. Just before 12:45 p.m., officers responded to calls about a man on a motorcycle chasing someone and banging on neighborhood doors near Bahama and Sleepy Hollow avenues, police said. When officers arrived, they found a male in his 60s who allegedly approached them with a unspecified weapon. An officer fired at least once; the man was taken to an area hospital. No information on his injuries or condition was immediately released, but Hayward police Officer Claudia Mau said he was expected to survive. The Alameda County District Attorney's Office will conduct an investigation parallel to an internal investigation within the department, police said. "At this point, we are still investigating to determine what led to that outcome," Hayward police said in a statement, mirroring the statement they made after the earlier shooting.
