Video captures hit-and-run crash involving pedestrian in crosswalk

Police said the driver behind the wheel of a vehicle involved in an apparent hit and run crash captured on camera along Broadway in Chelsea has come forward. Surveillance video from the business The Gold Rush near the intersection of Broadway and Everett Avenue shows the victim using the designated crosswalk, when he's struck by a pickup truck. The crash happened Wednesday around 4 p.m. The video shows the man hitting the driver's side hood of the dark-colored vehicle and then thrown several feet into the air before hitting the pavement. Seconds later, the pickup truck pulls by the pedestrian and appears to stop for a second or two before leaving the scene. The video from the scene shows the victim getting up following the crash, but limping to the corner of the intersection. The vehicle involved appeared to be a dark, older model Ford F-150 pickup truck. Chelsea police said the vehicle, possibly with a right rear break light not working and hood damage, fled into East Boston. The victim was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital with what police said were non-lifethreatening injuries.
