Flooding in a town in India led to a sari shop being mobbed by women trying to bag a bargain on 15 October. Heavy rains led to a flood in the town of Hukkeri in Karnataka, in which many vehicles were washed away and shops had their goods damaged. One unfortunate business was a popular store, Karnataka Clothes Centre. Hoping to get rid of their flood-damaged stock, the owner started selling saris for 20 rupees ($0.27). It was such a huge discount that the store was soon inundated with crowds of female customers. So many that the employees had to shout at the customers to observe social distancing and wait in an orderly fashion. "We decided to sell everything at a huge loss to dispose the stock but did not expect the mad rush" the owner said.
