Newly released dash cam footage shows the quick action three La Porte police officers took to pull a woman to safety after they discovered her sitting on the edge of a bridge along North State Highway 146. Video of the May 25 incident shows two officers dashing in to grab the woman while another officer distracted her. "Ma'ma, how are you doing? Come talk to me. You're not in trouble," he said. Around 10:30 pm., two officers approached her from behind and lifted her off the rail, pulling her to safety, despite her cries asking the officers to let her go. The police department has withheld the woman's name to protect her privacy. She was later transported to a nearby hospital for evaluation and treatment. "They're the heroes of the day," La Porte Police Department Sgt. Bennie Boles said of the officers. "That young lady would not be here today had they not acted so quickly." La Porte police officers routinely patrol the bridge in hopes of deterring any other people from jumping or contemplating jumping, Boles said. La Porte officers are also trained to handle such calls.
