The left steps up in the Trump era

As the Democratic Party struggles to recover from a stinging loss in the 2016 election, a burst of energy has emerged to the party’s left. One group, the Democratic Socialists of America, has seen its membership triple since the election, fueled by many supporters of Senator Bernie Sanders who would like to see the Democrats—and U.S. politics in general—move farther leftward in the Trump era.
