The legendary Joan of Arc, "Maid of Orl'eans" is the hero of France for her role during the Lancastrian portion of the Hundred Years' War, and is canonized as a saint. She was born to Jacques d'Arc and Isabelle Rom'ee, a peasant family, at Domr'emy in northeast France. At 16 years old, Joan descended on Orl'eans in 1429, in white armor, riding a white horse. She sent letter to the enemy, and then led the charge of several French assaults against them, forcing the Burgundians from their base, and forcing their retreat over the Loire.
