Streets in the Philippines capital were turned into rivers yesterday (May 29) after the onset of the country's rainy season. Heavy downpours caused flash flooding across Manila with roads submerged in up to 30cm of water. Footage from a tower block in Quezon City shows how residents had to paddle through the deluge as belongings were sept away. Onlooker Gyl Viloria who lives in the high-rise apartment was able to film what was happening at the neighbourhood below. She said: "I took this from my veranda. I saw one guy with his hands full as he tried to salvage everything from the flood. ''It didn't rain that hard today but the flood is already that high. I'm concerned about what will happen if there is more rain.'' Cities in the Philippines are at risk of severe flooding due to the poor infrastructure and drainage systems combined with regular monsoon downpours in the country's rainy season between late May and September.
