President Donald Trump's signed a proclamation last week recognising the Golan Heights as part of Israel, which annexed the area in 1981 after capturing it from Syria in 1967. Arab leaders, long divided by regional rivalries, unanimously condemned President Trump's decision on Sunday at the Arab League summit. Trump's Golan decision followed a US move less than four months ago to recognise Jerusalem as Israel's capital, a decision that also drew Arab condemnation.

May considers next move as she faces pressure to rule out long Brexit delay

MPs from British Prime Minister Theresa May's own conservative party urged her against a long extension of Brexit after her withdrawal deal was rejected for a third time on Friday, sending parliament into a political stalemate. The Sun newspaper reported on Saturday 170 of the 314 Tory ministers in parliament signed a letter to May demanding Brexit happens in the next few months. Friday's outcome now leaves May under pressure from rival parties to crash out of the EU with no-deal, call an election, or amend a much softer withdrawal agreement. May could even bring back her deal for a fourth vote on Tuesday after parliament votes on different non-binding Brexit options on Monday, which have been selected by Commons speaker John Bercow. The eight options include a no-deal exit, preventing a no-deal exit, a customs union, or a second referendum. "There are no ideal choices available and there are very good arguments against any possible outcome at the moment but we are going to have to do something," said Justice Secretary David Gauke, who voted to stay in the EU in the 2016 referendum. "The prime minister is reflecting on what the options are, and is considering what may happen but I don't think any decisions have been made," he told BBC TV. There is also speculation that an election could be called. The shadow foreign secretary, Emily Thornberry, said on Sunday the opposition Labour party is considering calling another vote of no confidence in May's government. "We don't know if she is going to remain prime minister, if we are going to get somebody else, who that other person is going to be - it is a mess," Thornberry said. The prime minister survived the last no confidence motion in January but if successfully passed it could pave the way for a general election. The UK was scheduled to leave the EU on Friday but the political deadlock forced May to ask the EU for a delay. May now has until April 12, when the UK is scheduled to leave the bloc, to seek a longer extension unless the prime minister comes up with another option. The crisis has plunged the UK into a deep division with pro and anti-Brexit supporters holding separate demonstrations over the last few weeks. On Saturday, thousands of anti-Brexit protesters rallied at six different points of the border between Northern Ireland and Ireland, worried that the return of customs checks could put peace and jobs at risk. On Sunday, a petition to revoke Article 50 and remain in the EU received more than six million signatures.

The 'Revolt of Empty Spain': Why is Spain's rural world protesting?

Thousands of Spanish citizens from remote rural areas are protesting this Sunday in Madrid against depopulation and the lack of infrastructure in their regions. The movement, initiated by 85 grassroots organisations, has come to be known as the "revolt of empty Spain". Depopulation, an acute problem in Spain's rural areas The municipality of Molina de Arag'on in the Guadalajara province (northwestern Spain) has a population density inferior to Siberia's. With 1.63 inhabitants per kilometre, it is the area that suffers the most from depopulation in a country with 16 provinces that feature among the least densely populated in Europe. The rural population of Spain increased between 2000 and 2010, but since then it has declined to approximately 9,17 million people, according to Statista. The issue is so acutely reflected on the map that 53% of the territory is inhabited by only 5% of the population, according to a study by the Research Centre on Depopulation and Development of Rural Areas (CEDDAR). The affected territories are usually "economically depressed areas that are going backwards or are less dynamic in contrast to other parts of the country," the report said. Although the protest movement is apolitical, the rural vote will be key in the national elections on April 28. The Spanish electoral system is based in the d'Hondt method, which favours the big parties and the less populated areas. Public policies deepening rather than solving the problem, researcher says The term "empty Spain" was coined by the author Sergio del Molino in an essay where he defines it as Spain's interior - an absolutely depopulated area that heavily contrasts with the urban areas. Molina says that this reality is a particularity of Spain compared to its European neighbours that are heavily populated. "In Spain, you can travel multiple kilometres without seen anything else but fields." "There is a lack of public services and little attention from the administration, there is also an important digital divide," said Juan Manuel Polentinos Castellanos from the Confederation of Rural Development Centres (COCEDER). "There are many problems that policies are not solving but rather deepening, hence the revolt of this 'empty Spain' that seeks to revitalise rural areas with opportunities and allow people who want to live there to do so in the same conditions (as in big cities)," he told Euronews. Polentinos said these territories need public services, taxes and specific legislation, different from what exists in cities: "It cannot be the same for Madrid as for a town of 100 inhabitants," he said. If these requirements are met, Polentinos believes that many people will move to rural areas. COCEDER launched an initiative in 2018 to attract people to depopulated areas. Its website volveralpueblo.org advertises available homes, lands, and business to facilitate the path for those who wish to undertake a project in a rural area. The conditions? None in particular, said Polentinos, only motivation and the commitment to change your life. The demand is there, assured Polentinos. In the last 20 years, more than a 100 families have shown interest in the advertised houses, he said. Where are the women? "The first reaction when you go to villages in Zamora (northwest Spain) is: "Where are the young people?" but also "Where are the women?" said journalist Ana Valiente who has researched rural Zamora - often called "the southern Lappland" - as part of the European project on depopulation "Empty Europe". "The lack of gender policies has resulted in women leaving their towns for bigger cities where they can find better opportunities but not necessarily better quality of life or more freedom." Protests in Italy as far-right party holds family values conference

Groups campaigning for women's and LGBT rights took the streets of Verona on Saturday as church leaders and pro-life activists met for a conference on family values. The protesters were there to oppose the World Congress of Families, whose self-declared goal is to restore what it calls the "natural family order". "In Italy there is currently a very serious attack against all the rights and freedoms that have been conquered by women," demonstrator Maddalena Saccone said. "There is talk of taking back the freedom of abortion, divorce and family law. These are struggles that were thought to have already been won." Police were deployed outside the conference and a counter-demonstration - by groups supporting the conference's aims - was also held. Olimpia Tarzia, an anti-abortion activist, said: "(The congress) wants above all to restore meaning and value to what the family is, the reconciliation of women between life times and work times and the true freedom of women." The three-day conference in Verona is funded by the local council and is backed by the far-right League Party, which is a partner in Italy's current coalition government.

The City of Phoenix Silent Witness Program needs your help to find two men who stole cash from a register at a Jack In The Box on Saturday, Feb. 23 around 1:30 p.m. The Jack in the Box is located at 4313 W. Thomas Road in Phoenix. The suspects were standing behind a customer in line at a register, according to Silent Witness. One of the suspects offered to pay for the customer's order, but when the employee opened the register, both suspects reached into it and grabbed money. One suspect pushed a customer and employees as they tried to stop the suspects from running away. Both suspects are Hispanic males, between the ages of 22 and 28. Both have mustaches. One suspect was wearing a gray hoodie, gray pants, and a black hat. The other suspect was wearing a blue jacket, dark pants, and a Cardinals hat.

Gutsy good Samaritan Vincent Millan held a bike seat in his hand and the memory of Junior in his head. Millan teamed with employees and fellow customers of a Brooklyn bodega to save a terrified teen from a mob of armed assailants in an attack eerily reminiscent of Lesandro (Junior) Guzman-Feliz's murder last June at the machete-wielding hands of Bronx gangbangers. Surveillance video of the frenetic attack shows the unidentified 17-year-old riding a moped along the sidewalk before pulling up beside a fruit stand brimming with pineapples, mangoes and oranges. He's then confronted by five menacing youths - including one who whacks the teen in the face. The victim quickly abandons the shiny, bright red vehicle and bolts inside the store, where quick-thinking workers and customers barricade the door to hold the attackers at bay. One of the assailants then hops on the moped and speeds off. Store worker Jones Garcia, 20, recalled his instant flashback to the execution of Junior as soon as the confrontation began.

Authorities are searching for a person captured on surveillance video hanging out of the passenger's side window of a vehicle shooting at a van. The shooting happened around 7 p.m. Thursday in the 7000 block of Beech Trail. The Bexar County Sheriff's Office responded to the neighborhood for a shooting in progress and during the investigation into the shooting, deputies discovered a homeowner's surveillance cameras captured the incident. In the video, a blue colored van is seen driving past the home, followed by a tan colored sedan in which a passenger is shown hanging out of the window while firing off multiple rounds toward the blue van.

The Eiffel Tower reaches 130, despite millions of visitors every year

It is to Paris what Big Ben is to London and the Colosseum is to Rome - and on Sunday the 300 metre metal giant celebrates its 130th birthday. More than seven million people visit the Eiffel Tower each year which, despite its age, remains in rude health. But, when it was built in 1887 by Gustave Eiffel for that year's Universal Exhibition, not everyone took a shine to the metal monolith. One group of intellectuals that included Emile Zola and Guy de Maupassant published a letter in the newspaper Le Temps. In it they protested against the building of the "useless and monstrous Eiffel Tower" and dismissed it as an "odious column of sheet metal with bolts." It was built by Gustave Eiffel for the Universal Exhibition and he used the third floor, both as an office and an apartment for his family. Relatives of Eiffel, who had had an office and apartment on the third floor, used to put it good use however. Savin Yeatman-Eiffel recalls how his grandmother used to climb it. "My grandmother, when she was young had asthma; a doctor had recommended the good air of the heights. And every Thursday afternoon, she would go up to the Eiffel Tower in this office and enjoy the good air of Paris at 300 metres," he said. And today, climbing its 1,665 steps remains a Parisian rite of passage.

Catalan separatists clash with police in protest against far-right

Catalan separatists clashed with police on Saturday amid a protest against Spain's far-right Vox party, who were holding their own demonstration in Barcelona. Members of the Catalan separatist Committees for the Defence of the Republic burned containers and threw stones at riot police before they were dispersed. A few streets away, Spain's Vox party also held a rally in the Catalan capital. In December the party won 16 seats in Andalucia's regional parliament. It could also win representation in the national parliament in a month's time when Spain heads to the polls in a general election.

Man makes dash at Pope Francis's convoy at the start of his Morocco trip

An unidentified man broke through security lines in an effort to reach a motorcade carrying Pope Francis and Morocco's King Mohamed VI. Live television pictures showed the man was restrained by security officials moments before he reached an open-top car carrying the king. The pontiff was travelling in a different vehicle at the time. The incident in Rabat happened shortly after he landed at the start of a two-day trip that officials say will focus on inter-faith relations. King Mohamed waiting in the heavy rain to greet the pope on the tarmac for what is the first papal visit to Morocco since 1985. The two were then carried in a large motorcade as part of a street parade in the capital Rabat to an official welcoming ceremony.

French artist reveals Louvre pyramid's secrets with giant collage

As France celebrated the 30th anniversary of the Louvre's famous glass pyramid on Friday, French artist JR unveiled a giant collage intended to reveal its secrets. The iconic pyramid now appears to emerge from the abyss in an optical illusion created with huge strips of printed papers. Some 400 volunteers, working in teams of 50, spent four days pasting 2,000 paper strips on the cobbles of the famous museum's courtyard. A camera on the roof of the Louvre fed images to two giant screens which appeared to show the pyramid emerging from its foundations, as if from a giant quarry of white rock. French artist JR has often been dubbed as 'the French Banksy' after the British street artist. He previously collaborated with the Louvre museum to camouflage the 70-foot-high pyramid in 2016. "Why not reinvent and rethink places? Why not wake up in your own city and allow yourself to reinvent and rethink it, to look at it in a different way?" JR said as the public discovered his new creation. The first visitors on Saturday seemed to appreciate the _trompe-l'oeil _installation. "It's in a dip, you could say. I didn't realise it was a way of erecting the pyramid from the ground, and that's interesting," said psychologist Odile Vurmes. "I know JR's work, not all of it, but I think he's really making a statement by doing this at the Louvre," pharmacist Charlotte Rayssac said. The Louvre's pyramid was commissioned by President Francois Mitterand to Chinese-American architect I. M. Pei's. While many Parisians hated its unconventional architecture when it was first unveiled 30 years ago, the pyramid is now revered like one of the Louvre's greatest treasures. Visitors have until April 1 to discover "the Secret of the Great Pyramid."

The new bridge at Rogiet Road, which will have a lifespan of around 120 years, is the last bridge in Monmouthshire to reopen following upgrade work. The bridge can now accommodate heavier vehicles, is fit for modern day traffic, has a new footpath for pedestrians and improved road alignment for better accessibility. The line was kept open for as long as they could but they had to demolish the old structure to make a higher bridge to accommodate newer electric passenger trains and the overhead catenary equipment. about 9 months work in 4 minutes...

Violence erupts again on anniversary of Gaza's border protests with Israel

Gaza medics said Israeli fire killed a Palestinian man near the Gaza border before dawn on Saturday as thousands of Palestinians rallied to mark the first anniversary of the border protests. The death came just hours before a protest to mark the anniversary of the 'Great March of Return' protest at the fence. The Israeli military said it had no knowledge of the death and Palestinians were throwing explosive devices at the border fence on Friday night. Israeli troops fired teargas and said some of the demonstrators threw rocks, grenades and burning tyres towards them. Tensions mounted along the border this week ahead of the commemoration of the protests. On Monday more violence erupted when a Palestinian rocket attack from Gaza wounded seven Israelis in a village north of Tel Aviv. In response, Israel launched a wave of air strikes and increased its forces at the border. This year around 200 Palestinians and one Israeli soldier have been killed. According to Gaza's health ministry around 7,000 Palestinians have been shot and wounded. U.N. investigators said last week that Israeli forces may be guilty of war crimes for using excessive force.

In this early morning (30/3/2019), 2 Gazan kids tried to infiltrate the Israel-Gaza border while carrying a knife. IDF soldiers identified the infiltration attempt and managed to capture the 2 Gazans unharmed. During a search, a big knife was found in their possession. The Israeli soldiers gave the 2 kids water , food and worm clothes. On questioning the 2 kids said that they infiltrate with the purpose of being arrested and jailed by Israel (* Probably for a PR purpose). After finish questioning the 2 Gazan kids, Israel delivered them back to the Gaza border through Erez Crossing and sent them free. This infiltrate attempt happened after that last night hundreds of Gazan threw many IEDs (explosives) over the Israeli border. At these moments, thousands of Gazan (with their children) are rioting at the border with Israel. This isn't the first time that the "Palestinian" use their kids as a purpose of propaganda (as you can see in the link in the comments below). Thousands gather at the Gaza border as Land Day mass protests begin; Islamic Jihad warns Israel of war if civilians killed today

Roughly 20,000 people are protesting right now at several locations along the Gaza border. Some are throwing rocks,explosives and burning tires near the fence. The IDF is using riot dispersal measures to scatter the demonstrators, and live fire in some cases. Hamas chief Ismail Haniyeh arrived in the border region between Israel and the Gaza Strip about an hour ago. The IDF's Arabic-language spokesman appealed directly to residents of the Gaza Strip ahead of today's mass border protests, saying benefits could be in store if they refrain from violence. "According to Palestinian reports, if you don't act violently or with terror today, signifiant measures will be implemented that can improve a variety of civilian fields in the Gaza Strip," Avihay Adraee writes on Facebook. "Think hard before using violence and terror. Israel is determined to defend its citizens and its sovereignty," he adds. During the night there were riots in several locations along the border, when Palestinians hurled explosives and grenades at the border fence. One Palestinian, Mohammed Saad, was shot dead by IDF fire. ************************************************************** The Islamic Jihad group in Gaza warned Israel on Friday of war if Palestinian civilians were killed at the mass protests planned for Saturday. A spokesman for the Al-Quds Brigades made the threat after calling for civilians to join the demonstrations in a video posted on the organization's website. "We caution the Zionist enemy against the spilling of Palestinian blood and emphasize that killing civilians will not bring it anything other than war," the spokesman, Abu Hamza, said in the video. Tens of thousands of Gazans are likely to join Saturday demonstrations for Land Day, which marks a 1976 decision by the Israeli government to seize thousands of dunams of Arab-owned land in the Galilee region of northern Israel. This year's march also marks a year since the start of the weekly violent protests along the Israel-Gaza border, known as the "March of Return." The protests have at times escalated into full-blown exchanges of fire between Israel and Palestinian militant groups in Gaza, most recently earlier this week.

Slovakia prepares to elect liberal lawyer as first female president

Slovakia is heading to the polls on Saturday and is set to elect liberal lawyer Zuzana Caputova as president in what could be a drastic shake-up to the wave of populist anti-EU leaders. If Caputova wins the vote, it would make her Slovakia's first female president. Her campaign, to rule-out corruption in a country, which she says is run "by people pulling strings from behind", has proved vastly popular. She also has the backing of a protest movement which has called for justice and fairness in the wake of the killing of journalist Jan Kuciak and his fiancee in 2018. Political novice Caputova is facing-off with European Union Commissioner Maros Sefcovic, who has more experience in politics than his rival and has the backing of the populist ruling party, SMER. According to an opinion poll by Median agency, the only survey released between the first and the second round of voting, Capotva has a clear lead with 60.5% against Sefcovic at 39.5%. Sandwiched between Poland and Hungary, Caputova's potential victory would turn the tide in the rise in Europe's populist leaders. As vice-chairwoman of the Progressive Slovakia party, which has no seats in parliament, Caputova supports gay marriage and adoption. The Bronco goes down hard and fast as flames and smoke erupt out of the rear-end of the aircraft. This is a dog fight, one where a Chihuahua has been has been pit against an experienced dog fighting Dobermann Pinscher. 2 killed when a speeding BMW hits a car 5 pedestrians

The eyewitness recorder captured the moment of the collision of three vehicles , which occurred at about 7 am on Saturday, March 30, at the intersection of Nevsky Prospekt and Liteiny Prospect in St. Petersburg. Judging by the frames of the video, the driver of the Hyundai Genesis car at high speed tried to rush the intersection to the prohibitory signal of the traffic light. He hit a Gazel, after which he rammed a Volkswagen passenger car, one of the cars was thrown back onto the sidewalk. As a result of an accident, the driver of the Volkswagen died, two of his passengers, a pedestrian and the driver of Hyundai were injured and were hospitalized. Rush to grab illegal booze in Indian 'dry' state before cops show up

This is the moment residents of a dry Indian state - including several children - rushed to snatch alcohol which was to be seized by police. On March 28, some liquor smugglers were passing through Sahu road in Muzafarpur, Bihar state, where alcohol is illegal, when some people spotted and caught them with liquor cartons in their vehicle and informed the police. However, before police could get there, local people started looting the liquor bottles from the smugglers. By the time the police showed up, they found only empty cartons, according to reports.

Man Arrested Following Wild Chase

Authorities engaged in a standoff with a suspect who led them on a wild chase in which he repeatedly rammed pursuing officers and civilian cars before heading the wrong way don the 5 Freeway in Burbank, authorities said. The encounter began after police responded to reports of a man armed with a knife about 7:25 p.m. at Big Tujunga Canyon Road and Oro Vista Avenue, Los Angeles Police Department Officer Rosario Cervantes said. The driver refused to pull over, initiating a chase. Aerial footage showed the driver putting his car in reverse and ramming pursuing officers' vehicles several times. The driver was seen waving an object, possibly a knife, out the window during the chase. The car then entered the 5 Freeway in the Sun Valley area, heading south in the northbound lanes, then continued into Burbank. The pursuit transitioned into a standoff after the car rammed two civilian vehicles and came to a stop on the freeway near Buena Vista Avenue. CHP officers were seen firing weapons as the driver exited the car. He then got back in. After remaining inside the car for about an hour, the suspect again emerged from the car. Officials fired a volley of less-lethal rounds, police said. The driver then lied down on the road before being swarmed by officers. The California Highway Patrol issued a Sig Alert for both directions of the 5 Freeway, just south of Buena Vista Avenue, as the standoff continued Friday night. Northbound lanes were opened about midnight, but southbound lanes remained closed for the investigation.
