Saturday Matinee - from LMS 4647 comes the supremely filmed and edited account of the four companies that formed the great railways of the day, the LMS (London Midland and Scottish), the GWR (Great Western Railway or as some are want to say; 'God's Wonderful Railway'...the line from London Paddington to Bristol is billiard board straight for a hundred miles or more ...sort of....considering that Brunel only had a pencil to work it out with...). The LNER (London and North Eastern Railway). and the SR (Southern Railway). The companies were formed as a result of the Railways Act 1921, in a process known as "The Grouping" (of the railways), which came into effect on 1 January 1923. On 1 January 1948 the companies were nationalised to form British Railways as a result of the Transport Act 1947. Caution: Rail Related Malarkey of the Highest Order...only view if you are an aficionado or interested in the genre... caveats apply by the bucket-load...however, should you be interested take a look at this gem - it's well worth the time investment.
