Mountain Iron, MN - The Minnesota State Patrol on Tuesday released dashcam video footage showing a train striking a semi west of Eveleth last month. The incident happened on Jan. 20 at the railroad crossing where St. Louis County highways 7 and 101 meet, about 3 miles west of Eveleth. The Patrol reported that the crash happened moments after the semi pulled away from an inspection by State Patrol Sgt. Jeff Shay. The semi driver "ignored the red flashing lights and train horn and drove onto the tracks," the Patrol reported Tuesday. "The train dragged the semi about a quarter-mile down the track before stopping." There were no serious injuries from the crash; the driver of the semi, a 67-year-old man from Iron, suffered a laceration near his eye and was cited for failing to stop at a railroad crossing.
