A 17ft-long python was captured after slithering into a prison and feasting on the ducks inside the facility's poultry coop. Prison officer Amnat Boon-ngamkham, 42, was doing the morning rounds at the Thung Pu Po Prison in Yala province, southern Thailand when he heard a commotion inside the coop on September 23. At first, he thought that some inmates were causing trouble but he was shocked when he saw a giant python coiled up near the frightened geese enclosure. The snake had curved bulges in its stomach which indicated that it was pregnant and could lay eggs anytime soon. Officer Amnat called the reptile rescuers immediately to remove the 23kg python that appeared to have eaten some of the livestock inside the coop. He said: "I heard the noise from the geese so I went inside to check what's wrong. I thought there were some inmates doing something inside but I found a huge snake instead." The rescuers spent almost an hour catching the reptile that is as ferocious as it was enormous. One of the rescuers said: "It was quite difficult for us to catch it because the snake was huge and heavy." The rescuers said that the pregnant snake ate several geese to load up on energy before laying eggs and was too full to slither away. Five volunteers carried the snake inside the sack out of the facility and took it into the woods for release.
