Kamala Harris aide says in resignation letter: 'I have never seen an organization treat its staff so poorly'

An aide to Sen. Kamala Harris blasted the treatment of staff on the California Democrat's presidential campaign in a resignation letter this month. "This is my third presidential campaign and I have never seen an organization treat its staff so poorly," wrote state operations director Kelly Mehlenbacher in the Nov. 11 letter, which was obtained by The New York Times. "While I still believe that Senator Harris is the strongest candidate to win in the General Election in 2020, I no longer have confidence in our campaign or its leadership," she added. She wrote that "the treatment of our staff over the last two weeks was the final straw in this very difficult decision." "It is not acceptable to me that we encouraged people to move from Washington, DC to Baltimore only to lay them off with no notice, with no plan for the campaign, and without thoughtful consideration of the personal consequences to them or the consequences that their absence would have on the remaining staff," Mehlenbacher said it her letter. "It is unacceptable that we would lay off anyone that we hired only weeks earlier. It is unacceptable that with less than 90 days until Iowa we still do not have a real plan to win." Mehlenbacher's resignation becomes effective Saturday. Meanwhile, Rep. Marcia Fudge (D-Ohio), who has endorsed Harris, criticized some top aides and called for the firing of campaign manager Juan Rodriguez in an interview with the Times. "I have told her there needs to be a change," Fudge said. "The weakness is at the top. And it's clearly Juan. He needs to take responsibility - that's where the buck stops." The newspaper noted that Harris declined to be interviewed. Rodriguez said in a statement to the Times that "our team, from the candidate to organizers across the country, are working day in and out to make sure Kamala is the nominee to take on Donald Trump and end the national nightmare that is his presidency." "Just like every campaign, we have made tough decisions to have the resources we need to place in Iowa and springboard into the rest of the primary calendar," Rodriguez added. The Hill has also reached out to the campaign for additional comment. Harris's campaign has cut staff in New Hampshire and Baltimore in recent weeks and redeployed others to Iowa. The senator has also recently struggled to gain momentum in the polls. She is among more than a dozen people running for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination.

Everyone knows Trump is guilty as hell - Impeachment is Now Just a spectacle

The House Intelligence Committee's impeachment hearings have been the perfect sweeps-season exhibition of American dysfunction, weirdness and stupidity. Democrats are meticulously proving that President Trump is an inveterate liar who broke the law by transforming international diplomacy into a partisan, tabloid dirt-finding expedition in exactly the buffoonish manner that anyone would expect. Trump is a corrupt con artist unqualified for a junior high student council. Impeachment and removal are beyond debate to anyone of minimal sanity. In other breaking news, the Earth orbits the sun. More shocking than the extent of Trump's petty corruption is the obsequiousness of leading Republicans, all of whom have publicly invested in the personality cult surrounding the former host of "Celebrity Apprentice." Apparently convinced that the country cannot survive without the leadership of the man who had the wisdom to fire Gary Busey in the boardroom, and later defend murderous white supremacists, the GOP have exposed themselves as lacking any of the principles - "family values"; belief in small, honest government; fiscal conservatism, patriotic loyalty to the laws and institutions of the United States - they previously boasted about.House impeachment, and subsequent Senate removal, in any rational Congress would have taken all of four minutes, allowing the electorate to prepare for the alarming reality of President Mike Pence. Instead, curious citizens are subjected to the monstrosity of Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, whose previous high-water mark was disregarding accusations of sexual abuse in the Ohio State locker room when he was an assistant wrestling coach, doing his best impersonation of a serious human being as he shouts about "process" in his shirtsleeves. Barring any bombshell, it looks as if the entire Trump fiasco will result in a repetition of the Bill Clinton episode - impeachment in the House, acquittal in the Senate. That is not the only reason that the entire proceeding feels anticlimactic. It is deeply unsatisfying because it is focused on what is likely the least of Trump's misdeeds. At least 25 women have accused Trump of sexual assault - most of them alleging that he forcibly grabbed their genitals, which is precisely what he has bragged about doing on an open mic. Sexual predation and harassment are conspicuously absent from the congressional hearings on Trump, along with media dissection of his presidency. Occasionally, a pundit will casually reference the accusations as if they were nothing more than an unfortunate, but pedestrian reality of national politics. Rep. Katie Hill, a freshman Democrat, resigned over a consensual affair with a staffer, yet Trump faces no political consequences for, according to his credible accusers, a lifetime of assaulting women.

It has been 11 months since unsealed federal court documents revealed that U.S. immigration officials created a fake university to lure foreign-born college students who were trying to stay in the country on student visas that might not have been legal. The University of Farmington, a fictitious school that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement marketed as a hub for STEM students who wanted to enroll and not "interrupt their careers," had a fake name, a fake website and a fake motto on its fake seal. "Scientia et Labor," the seal said, which means "Knowledge and Work." In January 2019, eight people who allegedly worked as "recruiters" for the school and collectively helped at least 600 students remain in the country under false pretenses were charged with federal conspiracy. At the time, the Detroit News reported that dozens of University of Farmington students - many of them Indian nationals - were arrested for immigration violations and faced deportation. Now, according to ICE, that number has jumped to about 250 students. Those arrests took place between January and July, ICE said in a statement first reported by the Detroit Free Press and obtained by The Washington Post. Most of the arrests happened in February, immigration officials said. Nearly 80% of those who were arrested chose to voluntarily leave the United States, according to the ICE statement. Another 10% of the University of Farmington students received a "final removal order," officials said, either from an immigration judge or from U.S. Customs and Border Protection. The final 10% of students have challenged their deportations, either by filing for legal relief or by contesting their removals with the Executive Office for Immigration Review, the statement said. Seven of the eight recruiters, all in their 20s or 30s, have pleaded guilty and been sentenced to prison time, Detroit ICE spokesman Khaalid Walls told the Free Press. The newspaper reported the names of those recruiters and their sentences as follows: Barath Kakireddy, 29, of Lake Mary, Florida, 18 months; Suresh Kandala, 31, of Culpeper, Virginia, 18 months; Santosh Sama, 28, of Fremont, California, 24 months; Avinash Thakkallapally, 28, of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, 15 months; Aswanth Nune, 26, of Atlanta, 12 months; Naveen Prathipati, 26, of Dallas, 12 months. Prem Rampeesa, 27, was sentenced last week to one year in prison, though he has already served 295 days and so will likely be released in two or three months and then deported back to India, his attorney Wanda Cal told the Free Press. Phanideep Karnati, 35, of Louisville, Kentucky, will be sentenced in January 2020, the Free Press reported. It is not clear whether all of the recruiters will be deported after serving their sentences. Federal immigration officials directed questions about sentencing to a U.S. attorney. The U.S. attorney's office for the Eastern District of Michigan did not immediately respond to a request from The Post. The University of Farmington was created, ICE officials said in their statement, to provide the Department of Homeland Security with "first-hand evidence of fraud." "Undercover schools provide a unique perspective in understanding the ways in which students and recruiters try to exploit the non-immigrant student visa system," ICE said in the statement. But Rahul Reddy, a Texas attorney involved with these students' cases, told the Detroit News that U.S. officials running the fake University of Farmington operation preyed upon unsuspecting students. "They should not punish these people who were lured into a trap," said Rahul Reddy, a Houston-based attorney who represented or advised about 80 students who were arrested. "These people can't even defend themselves properly because they're not given the same rights in deportation proceedings." As The Post has previously reported, prosecutors argued in the court documents unsealed earlier this year that the students were aware that the school was a fraud. They allegedly chose to enroll anyway, because doing so would allow them to remain in the country on F-1 nonimmigrant visas, which allow foreign citizens to temporarily reside in the United States while studying at accredited academic institutions. Khaalid Walls, a spokesman for ICE in Detroit, told local news station WXYZ in January that the students had entered the United States legally on F-1 visas after being accepted to legitimate schools and had later transferred to the University of Farmington. The eight recruiters allegedly helped create fraudulent records, including transcripts, that students could give to immigration authorities. Authorities said in the original charging documents that they collectively accepted more than $250,000 in kickbacks for their work, not realizing that the payments were actually coming from undercover agents who worked for Homeland Security Investigations, a division of ICE. The undercover operation, called Paper Chase, ran for several years before the January indictments. The Detroit News reported that the fake university was set up in 2015, but that HSI agents didn't begin posing as university officials until 2017, according to the indictment. From the outside, the University of Farmington appeared legitimate, touting on its fake website the number of languages spoken by its president (four) and the number of classes taught by teaching assistants (zero). Photos of the campus showed students lounging around with books on a grassy quad or engaged in rapt conversation in its brightly lit modern library. Tuition was relatively reasonable - $8,500 a year for undergraduates and $11,000 a year for graduate students. But there were no classes taking place at the university, which employed no instructors or professors. Its "campus" consisted of a small office in a corporate park in the northwestern Detroit suburb of Farmington Hills, Michigan, with no quad or library in sight. Prosecutors alleged that Farmington was "being used by foreign citizens as a 'pay to play' scheme." Students would pay thousands of dollars to the university, then provide immigration authorities with evidence that they were enrolled in a full-time educational program. They could then continue to live and work in the United States under a student visa. The Department of Homeland Security's list of certified schools where international students can enroll included the University of Farmington. Reddy told the Free Press that the U.S. government "made a lot of money" off these foreign national students. In court last week, the attorney for 27-year-old Prem Rampeesa, one of the student recruiters, said her client was "remorseful" and a "good person caught up in a bad situation," reported the Free Press. He had initially come to the U.S. legally and spent $40,000 to earn a master's degree in 2016 from Northwestern Polytechnic University, a school that later lost its accreditation. "He was desperate to find a way to stay in the United States," Rampeesa's attorney wrote in a sentencing memo, according to the Free Pre ss. Rampeesa believed he was working with university officials, though they were actually undercover immigration officials, the Free Press reported. He believed he was receiving tuition credits for recruiting other students, his attorney said. "I am ashamed," Rampeesa wrote in a letter pleading for leniency at his sentencing hearing, reported the Free Press. "I made a very bad decision," he said, one that "bought shame to my family name."

Three women accuse Sondland of sexual misconduct

Gordon Sondland, the ambassador to the European Union who has been embroiled in the impeachment inquiry into Donald Trump, has been accused by three women of sexual misconduct. The accusations were first reported by ProPublica and Portland Monthly on Wednesday: "In one case, a potential business partner recalls that Sondland took her to tour a room in a hotel he owns, only to then grab her face and try to kiss her. After she rejected him, Sondland backtracked on investing in her business. Another woman, a work associate at the time, says Sondland exposed himself to her during a business interaction. She also recalls falling over the back of a couch trying to get away from him. After she made her lack of interest clear, she says Sondland called her, screaming about her job performance. A third woman, 27 years Sondland's junior, met him to discuss a potential job. She says he pushed himself against her and kissed her. She shoved him away. She says his job help stopped. Sondland, in a statement, said the claims have "no basis in fact." The alleged misconduct took place before Sondland began his ambassadorship to the E.U. in 2018. Another woman, Jana Solis, a hospitality safety engineer for a New York insurance company that specializes in risk management for hotels, had a business lunch with Sondland that she said turned inappropriate. He was flirting through the lunch, and ends up just saying, 'OK, I've heard enough,'" Solis told ProPublica. "'You're hired. Congratulations. You're my new hotel chick.'" As they were leaving the restaurant, Solis claims that Sondland slapped her on the butt. Later, the two met up again after Sondland requested she visit his house to view his art collection. "Solis wasn't trained in art valuations, but she agreed to go to his home, she says, to keep the business account intact," the article said. He then directed her to meet up with him in his pool house to view another collection, and Solis said he was naked from the waist down. "He's like, 'Well, I just thought we could have some fun, but you know, it's cool.'" Solis said. Though she rebuffed his advances, she wound up meeting with Sondland again as she was conducting training sessions at a hotel: "So I'm acting very professional, and I'm going over some of the things I think he needs to deal with [as part of my inspection] and just trying to stay down that road. [He says:] 'Have a drink. Thanks for all you've done this week.'" Solis remembers sitting on the couch with him, having a glass of wine and hoping as hard as she could - praying - that it would go no further. "The next thing I know, he's all over me," she recalls. Quinones fled the scene but returned 90 minutes later and admitted that he was involved, and was charged with leaving the scene of an accident, failure to exhibit registration and careless driving, Rodrigues said. But authorities reopened their investigation when they found dashcam video posted on Instagram that showed Quinones and his father, Fred Ordine, 44, racing their Corvettes through the tunnel, Rodrigues said. The footage shows one of the Corvettes rear-ending another vehicle, which collides with the other Corvette and causes it to spin out and crash into the tunnel walls. Quinones took the video down from his Instagram page after being asked about it by detectives, but the footage has been reposted by other accounts, police added. The father and son were arrested Tuesday on the new charges in New York state.

Mexican Police Chief Resigns After Surviving Fierce Cartel Attack

A newly appointed municipal police chief in central Mexico resigned this week after surviving a fierce attack by cartel gunmen while traveling in an armored patrol vehicle. The attack took place two weeks ago and left two of the chief's bodyguards wounded. His armored truck sustained more than 100 bullet strikes. Celaya, Guanajuato, Police Chief Jos'e Carlos Ramos-Ramos turned in his resignation this past Friday - just 21 days after being named the Police Director of Celaya, according to a local media report. The departure from his newly appointed post comes one week after he survived a fierce attack by cartel hitmen while traveling as part of a two-vehicle convoy on the Celaya-Salamanca highway on November 15.

56 years ago today: Jack Ruby Kills Lee Harvey Oswald

On November 24, 1963, a crowd of reporters, policemen and camera crews gathered to watch as Lee Harvey Oswald (the man charged with killing President Kennedy) was brought to the basement of the Dallas city jail en route to a waiting car scheduled to transfer him to the county jail. As a handcuffed Oswald, flanked by detectives, came into view, Jack Ruby, stocky, balding and wearing a dark suit and gray fedora hat, lunged forward from the crowd. At approximately 11:20 a.m., Ruby fatally wounded Oswald with a single shot to the abdomen from a concealed .38-caliber revolver. Cameras captured the attack on national television, the first murder ever seen by Americans on live television. The shooter, wrestled to the ground by police, shouted, "You all know me. I'm Jack Ruby." Oswald was rushed to Parkland Hospital, where he soon died in surgery. Ruby, charged with murder, claimed he killed Oswald so that Jacqueline Kennedy wouldn't have to return to Dallas for a trial. While in prison, Jack ruby was interviewed by the media, and was recorded as saying: Gentlemen, I want to tell the truth, but I cannot tell it here. WASHINGTON - Defense Secretary Mark T. Esper asked for the resignation of Navy Secretary Richard V. Spencer on Sunday after losing confidence in him over his handling of the case of a Navy SEAL accused of war crimes in Iraq, the Pentagon said. Spencer's resignation came in the wake of the controversial case of Chief Petty Officer Edward Gallagher, a Navy SEAL who was accused of war crimes on a 2017 deployment. He was acquitted of murder but convicted in July of posing with the corpse of a captive. Esper asked for Spencer's resignation after learning that he had privately proposed to White House officials that if they did not interfere with proceedings against Gallagher, then Spencer would ensure that Gallagher was able to retire as a Navy SEAL, with his Trident insignia. Spencer's private proposal to the White House - which he did not share with Esper over the course of several conversations about the matter - contradicted his public position on the Gallagher case, chief Pentagon spokesman Jonathan Hoffman said in a statement. Esper said in the statement that he was "deeply troubled by this conduct." "Unfortunately, as a result I have determined that Secretary Spencer no longer has my confidence to continue in his position," Esper said. "I wish Richard well." Spencer's spokeswoman did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Esper and Army Gen. Mark A. The military, nor any person therein, does not get to "threaten" the President of The United States. The President is the Commander in Chief of all armed forces. It is not President Trump who would be doing "untold damage to decades of military justice doctrine", but rather the insubordination of flag officers who are duty bound to carry out legal and constitutional instructions from the President. The DoD inaction surrounding Lt. Col Vindman was a precursor, a visible symptom few were paying attention to; indicating a political cancer within the unified chain of command. The U.S. Secretary of the Navy threatening the U.S. President is an even more alarming symptom. A military officer does not get to threaten his leadership with a 'do what I demand or I will quit' approach. Any senior level military officer who would express such a sentiment would be regarded as unstable, compromised and unfit to hold a leadership rank. Yes, it really is that simple. Navy Secretary Richard V Spencer compromised his position within the unified command structure. There is no room for insubordination at this level, and gross manipulation of command authority for an independent agenda that is against the expressed will of the President of the United States; the Commander in Chief of all Armed Services. The worst, absolute worst thing, a military officer can do is to compromise the position of his leadership. Once that compromise is identified it must be removed, with extreme prejudice. In this type of leadership compromise the chain-of-command does not request permission from the President who -in this example- is the Commander targeted by the compromise. The immediate commanding officer (Def Sec Esper) has a duty to remove the compromise without conversation (regarding corrective action) with his superior officer, in this case President Trump, until such time as the compromise has been relieved, and subordination issue corrected. Then the corrective action is discussed with the President. Secretary Esper made exactly the right decision. Esper has suggested to Trump that Kenneth Braithwaite, a retired Navy rear admiral who is currently the U.S. ambassador to Norway, be considered as the next Navy secretary. One issue still remains, what about the compromise remaining from the conduct of the Schiff puppet Lt. Col Alexander Vindman? . . . Navy SEAL Eddie Gallagher has really been put into a narrow gauntlet by a military command structure that does appear to be attempting retaliation and retribution against a warrior out of spite. It is a remarkable dynamic and very troubling to see two high ranking military leaders seeming to rebuke the civilian command structure. Rogue military leadership is troubling in the framework of our constitutional Republic. . . . . Navy SEAL Eddie Gallagher Responds to Command Targeting and President Trump Support... . . . . Donald Trump is demanding a senate impeachment trial to force Joe Biden, Hunter Biden, and Adam Schiff to testify Republicans have launched an investigation into Joe and hunter Biden over Burisma And in the event of a senate trial 2020 Democrats will be pulled off the campaign to serve as jurors and Joe Biden will be as a witness. They claim Trump wanted to dig up dirt on Biden but because of the impeachment inquiry not only are people questioning Biden's morals but he is even being investigated over this. No one knew Trump talked to Zelensky, no one knew or cared about Biden and Ukraine Because of the Democrats its all anyone is talking about and its prime time TV. Was Biden corrupt? Was Trump? While all these democrats are wrapped up in impeachment Donald Trump will be using his record breaking funds which he made off impeachment to travel the country and make his case for reelection. The Democrats may have made the biggest blunder in the History of US politics.

During the violent encounter, the woman's breasts were exposed. Now, the alleged victim in this case is seeking compensation for this treatment. Unlike most lawsuits for police brutality, however, the taxpayers will not be held liable this time. Instead, she is suing Waffle House.

'Everything Is Connected': Ukrainian Gas Company's CEO Willing to Testify Against Rudy Giuliani

The CEO of Ukraine's state-owned gas and oil company Naftogaz said on Friday that he would be willing to provide testimony to U.S. federal prosecutors currently investigating Rudy Giuliani's foreign business dealings in the region. "I will with a high likelihood be invited to testify in this case," Naftogaz of Ukraine CEO Andriy Kobolyev said in an interview with Time. "If I am called, I would be willing to come and testify." As previously reported by Law&Crime, federal authorities are looking into whether Giuliani and his recently indicted business associates/clients, Lev Parnas and Igor Fruman, were attempting to leverage their political influence in Ukraine to land lucrative contracts with Naftogaz, the country's state-owned oil and gas company. Parnas and Fruman were arrested in October and charged for illegally funneling foreign political donations to Republican U.S. election candidates in violation of federal campaign finance laws. The two Soviet-born Florida businessmen were allegedly attempting to oust Kobolyev from his position at Naftogaz and have him replaced with someone more inclined to benefit them financially. This has previously been described as a "shakedown." Giuliani, who is reportedly suspected of violating federal campaign finance and federal lobbying laws through his work with Parnas and Fruman, has not been charged with a crime. According to Time, federal authorities in the Southern District of New York plan to have Kobolyev - widely viewed an anti-corruption reformer - testify behind closed-doors about the efforts to replace him at Naftogaz. Asked if he was going to provide evidence about Giuliani or about Parnas and Fruman, Kobolyev claimed to have relevant information about all of the above. "Both," Kobolyev responded. Cops Held Mentally Ill Man Down on Scorching Asphalt Until His Skin Literally Melted Off

On June 23, 2017, the pavement was estimated to have been around 170 degrees, eight degrees higher than what it takes to instantly destroy human skin. James Bradford Nelson III was thrown to the ground by police and held down, causing his skin to melt off, resulting in third-degree burns on his face, torso, legs, and buttocks. Nelson suffers from schizophrenia and had been detained that day after a mental episode in the parking lot of a KFC. Police officers were called to the KFC when Nelson was behaving erratically. The shirtless man then fled the restaurant but was taken to the ground, with his bare skin being exposed to the scorching roadway. Nelson's mother and stepfather, Tarsha and Barry Benigno, told the Sacremento Bee that they believe the officers were "poorly trained," and that the injuries Nelson sustained have taken an emotional toll on both him and his family. The lawsuit contends, "During this time on the ground Nelson was screaming and yelling in excruciating pain," and adds, "the officers forced his head down onto the hot pavement, leaning onto it with such force that Nelson could not move it for relief, exposing the right side of his face and neck to the scorching heat of the concrete."
