Man stumbles upon unusual lace-rock in the middle of Arizona's desert.

A man in Page, Arizona is exploring the region when he stumbles upon this fascinating rock formation, thin and interwoven like lace on January 21. "This extremely bizarre lace-rock sandstone is razor-thin, it doesn't resemble anything on this planet," said Nicholas Warner, the filmer. According to Waner's research, millions of years ago this region of the US was underneath a large inland sea, inhabited by many shellfish. Over time, as the sea became more acidic, the shells of dead shellfish dissolved into calcite which permeated cracks in the sand beneath it. Today, as the very same landscape is above ground, wind and water erode away the regular sandstone leaving the hardened calcite mixture behind.
