Downtown Los Angeles explosion, leaves at least 3 injured

At least three people were injured, two critically, in an explosion and "heavy fire" in an industrial area of downtown Los Angeles on Saturday afternoon, officials said. The explosion occurred about 12 p.m. at a textile business located in a row of commercial structures in the 700 block of South Kohler Street, the Los Angeles Fire Department said in a statement. The victims were described as three males, two of whom were severely burned, the LAFD said. The third patient was in fair condition after suffering unspecified injuries.

ICE: Chicago released previously-deported felon who went on to sexually assault toddler

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is publicly shaming Chicago authorities, claiming that they released a Mexican citizen who later sexually assaulted a toddler at a fast food restaurant. Chrstopher Puente, 34, was arrested on Feb. 19 for sexually assaulting a 3-year-old despite ICE's previous request that police continue detaining the previously deported felon. According to a press release on Thursday, Puente had two felony convictions for forced-entry burglary and forgery. Despite his background, Chicago declined ICE's June 2019 request to detain Puente -- raising more concerns about a jurisdiction already under fire for defying ICE. A CBS affiliate reported that Puente confessed to placing "the child on his lap while he was in a restroom stall, pulled off her pants, and covered her mouth when she started calling out 'daddy daddy.'" ICE filed an immigration detainer for Puente after his most recent arrest. The agency reported in January that Cook County, which includes Chicago, denied more than 1,000 detainer requests in fiscal year 2019 alone. Detainers are requests by federal immigration enforcement for local jurisdictions to keep in custody immigrants who have been arrested on criminal charges and are believed to be "removable." Those denials translated into 1,070 criminal aliens and immigration violators getting released. Chicago police did not immediately respond to Fox News' request for comment. Robert Guadian, field office director of Chicago Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO), blamed what he called "irresponsible lawmaking" for Puentes release. "How many more victims must there be before lawmakers realize that sanctuary policies do not protect the innocent?" Guadian asked. "Puente should have been in ICE custody last year and removed to his home country. Instead, irresponsible lawmaking allowed him to walk free and prey on our most vulnerable." Cook County, which includes Chicago, had previously come under fire from then-Attorney General Jeff Sessions, who threatened to revoke federal funding over its sanctuary status. The Justice Department also sent letters to New Orleans, Philadelphia, Las Vegas, Sacramento, Milwaukee, and New York City. ICE official Henry Lucero previously warned that Illinois' sanctuary status made it more difficult for federal authorities to track criminals. "The most concerning issue about working in an area that refuses to cooperate with ICE is not only that we do not know which criminal aliens are being released from custody, but the public doesn't know either," he said. The sanctuary issue has put a long list of states under scrutiny as the administration has blamed local laws for crime against American citizens. ICE reported earlier this month that hundreds of Orange County Jail inmates on whom the agency had active detainers were re-arrested over the past two years on charges including rape, assault with a deadly weapon and child sex offenses -- after local authorities released them without notifying ICE. According to county data, officials at the Southern California jail didn't notify ICE when it released 2,121 inmates with detainers on them over 2018 and 2019. Over that same period, another 1,315 were released "to ICE upon completion of their local sentences in accordance with" California's sanctuary regulations laid out in Senate Bill 54, an ICE press release said. https://ift.tt/2PCl93V

Teenagers Ejected From Stolen Car After Pursuit In Van Nuys

Three teens and one adult were injured after the reportedly stolen vehicle they were fleeing from police in crashed into a light pole causing multiple ejections, Thursday night. Officer attempted to stop a reportedly stolen vehicle in the Los Angeles Police Department's Foothill Division in the Van Nuys area around 10:30 PM. The driver of the vehicle failed to yield to officers and fled at dangerous speeds. Pursuing officers went into surveillance mode due to the reckless driving pattern but the suspects crashed into a pole shortly after on the southbound I-405 Freeway just south of Victory around 10:30 PM. The crash injured three teenagers and one male inside the car, some of whom were ejected in the crash. Firefighter paramedics treated all four victims and transported them to area hospitals in police custody.

Odd Shootout At The Supermarket

Car was the only thing hit by both sides for some reason. The owners of the Bem Mais supermarket and some customers who were in the place lived moments of panic during an exchange of fire between a plainclothes officer and burglars who tried to rob the establishment. The occurrence was registered on Saturday night (22) in the Jos'e Am'erico neighborhood. A garrison of the Military Police, which answered the incident, reported that three men arrived in a white car at the establishment, one of whom got out of the vehicle, with a gun, and even from the passenger door, fired several shots. Upon realizing it, the policeman, who was in plain clothes and next to someone else, throws himself on the floor with a backpack, reacts and shoots at the assailants. The suspects abandoned the vehicle, which was hit with several shots, and flee on foot. One of them was arrested hours later by the police.

Green New Deal would cost swing-state households around $75G in first year: study.

A new study claims that progressives' Green New Deal (GND) would impose around $75,000 in average annual costs for households in key battleground states -- raising questions as to how climate politics will impact voter sentiment going into the 2020 elections. The report, released by the Competitive Enterprise Institute (CEI) and Power the Future on Wednesday, builds upon a previous study from the organization last summer. Using updated data, the group found that within the first year of implementation, the GND would cost households an average of between $74,287 and $76,683 in 10 states -- Colorado ($74,287), Florida ($76,109), Iowa ($76,683), Michigan ($74,470), New Hampshire ($74,723), New Mexico ($74,432), North Carolina ($74,609), Ohio ($75,807), Pennsylvania ($75,307), and Wisconsin ($75,252). Those figures incorporate the cost of electricity production within the first year of the program, a one-time upgrade to vehicles and housing, as well as shipping and logistics costs incurred from GND mandates. CEI also examined Alaska, which would purportedly face $84,584 in average annual household costs during the GND's first year. While the costs for each of the states declined in the following years, they all faced more than $39,000 in average annual household costs in the long term (six years or more). The report also identifies collective costs per state based on all of those factors, omitting electricity production. In total, these states would face $2.7 trillion in aggregate costs to households. Households just in the key battleground state of Florida would face $700 billion in collective costs to fulfill the GND's goal of transitioning towards electric vehicles, retrofit residential buildings, and complying with changes to shipping and logistics. Released on Wednesday, the study found that households in other major states -- like Ohio, Michigan, and Pennsylvania -- would incur roughly $200-$400 billion in initial costs. Because the GND is so sweeping in its goals, it was difficult for CEI to fully account for the true costs of implementation. And it's unclear how Democratic spending would help mitigate the costs incurred by households. Yet, the free market think tank calculated base estimates showing a hefty price for GND mandates energy-related provisions of the progressive proposal. The other aspects of the proposal, it said, "dwarf the energy-related costs by an order of magnitude." As the study's authors point out, their numbers provide just a basis for the actual cost of the energy-related provisions. For example, their calculations exclude costs for air cargo, as well as for retrofitting commercial and industrial buildings. "Taken together, the estimated costs for retrofitting current residential, commercial, and industrial buildings is astronomical," wrote authors Daniel Turner and Kent Lassman. "The Green New Deal would effectively destroy America's energy industry, and with it, our entire economy," added Turner, the executive director of Power the Future, which partnered with CEI on the project. "Right now, our booming national economy and record low unemployment rate is driven by abundant, domestic, reliable, and inexpensive energy produced by millions of men and women across the country," he said. "Any policy that proposes to reverse this success is a threat to jobs, to rural communities, to national security, and to the very prosperity that Americans are experiencing." Both CEI and the Heritage Foundation have found that the Green New Deal's energy goals alone would cost households hefty and likely impractical sums. When the American Action Forum (AAF), led by former Congressional Budget Office director Douglas Holtz-Eakin, looked at the GND, it accounted for several other goals with primarily economic aims ("universal health care" and "guaranteed jobs"). It found that the program could cost as much as $94 trillion. By including those provisions, AAF's calculations estimated that the average cost per household would be $600,000. CEI has come under fire for taking donations from groups associated with the Koch brothers, two figures progressives have attacked for opposing climate change efforts. The organization describes itself on its website as a "non-profit public policy organization dedicated to advancing the principles of limited government, free enterprise and individual liberty. CEI's mission is to promote both freedom and fairness by making good policy good politics." Wednesday's numbers came as the Democratic primary results continued pointing to a strong progressive sentiment among those in the party: Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., who has endorsed the GND and received backing from its primary sponsor, won by substantial margins in both New Hampshire's and Nevada's contests this month. Although voter concern about climate change has reportedly increased, it appears to be driven by Democrats. There's a wide gap between the percentage of Republicans and Democrats who describe it as a top policy priority, according to Pew Research Center. Sanders and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., the plan's primary proponent, maintain that the cost of inaction on climate change is unsustainable. According to Sanders, the proposed solutions -- infrastructure and investment -- would boost the U.S. economy as well. On Tuesday, Sanders released more details about how he proposed to pay for his version of the GND, which he says would cost $16.3 trillion. That included $3.085 trillion from penalizing the fossil fuel industry "for their pollution" and from eliminating fossil fuel subsidies. Another $6.4 trillion would purportedly come from "power marketing administrations," which are energy entities created by government takeovers of the energy sector. It's unclear how much those would cost and if that would offset the projected revenue increase. Finally, Sanders warns that without action on climate change, the U.S. will "lose $34.5 trillion by the end of the century." He also predicts savings as high as $70.4 trillion over 80 years by "averting climate catastrophe."

ABC News suspends David Wright for remarks made in Project Veritas video.

This is in response to a video posted yesterday I believe. ABC News has suspended veteran Washington correspondent David Wright for remarks he made that were captured on video by Project Veritas. Wright was disciplined after higher-ups at ABC News reviewed footage in which Wright describes himself as a "socialist" and appears to criticize the network for the way in which it chooses to present the news. "I feel terrible about it. I feel that the truth suffers, the voters are poorly informed, and people also have the opportunity to tune into whatever they want to hear," Wright said in the video, which also features an ABC News producer. "And so, it's like there's no upside, or our bosses don't see an upside in doing the job we're supposed to do, which is to speak truth to power and hold people accountable." The veteran reporter expounded at length on his political views. "I would consider myself a socialist, like I think there should be national health insurance," he said. "I'm totally fine with reining in corporations, I think they're too many billionaires, and I think there's a wealth gap - that's a problem." In the hidden video that Project Veritas said was filmed in New Hampshire during its primary's coverage, Wright, 56, also called President Trump "a d---" while simultaneously complaining that Trump is sometimes not given "credit for what things he does do." Wright did not respond to Fox News' request for comment. A rep for ABC News told Fox News he would be reassigned after serving his suspension. "Any action that damages our reputation for fairness and impartiality or gives the appearance of compromising it harms ABC News and the individuals involved," the rep said. "David Wright has been suspended, and to avoid any possible appearance of bias, he will be reassigned away from political coverage when he returns." An ABC insider told Fox News that Wright had been hoodwinked into making his statements on camera. "Wright and the producer didn't know who they were talking to. Didn't know they were being recorded," the insider said. "The person introduced himself as a documentary filmmaker and didn't say he was recording." Wright's recorded comments come during a heated presidential race in which Social Democrat Bernie Sanders has emerged as the early frontrunner to take on Republican Donald Trump. Sanders expressed admiration for some of the accomplishments of communist Cuban leader Fidel Castro in an interview with "60 Minutes" on Sunday, and was booed during the Democratic presidential debate on Tuesday night when he repeated his praise of Cuba's educational system under Castro. Project Veritas' founder James O'Keefe teased the Wright footage in a tweet on Tuesday. "Not long ago we exposed the #EpsteinCoverup within #ABC. Tomorrow, @Project_Veritas will expose ABCNews' agenda to mislead voters and push their own narratives," he wrote. "You aren't going to want to miss it." In the tweet, O'Keefe referenced a video he published in November 2019 that showed ABC News anchor Amy Robach claiming higher-ups at her network killed a story that would have exposed the now-deceased sex offender Jeffrey Epstein three years ago. "I've had the story for three years... we would not put it on the air," Robach said on set on a hot mic. "It was unbelievable what we had, Clinton, we had everything." In October 2019, O'Keefe also released undercover recordings that captured CNN employees casually confirming the network's anti-Trump bias. Project Veritas, which frames itself as a conservative whistleblower watchdog group, has previously released what it claims to be hidden camera footage of network news producers, federal politicians, and members of private political organizations making statements while unaware they were being recorded. According to his network bio, Wright joined ABC News in 2000 and has appeared regularly in recent years on "World News Tonight," "Nightline," "Good Morning America" and other ABC News platforms.

A federal appeals court on Wednesday handed a major win to the Trump administration in its fight against "sanctuary" jurisdictions, ruling that it can deny grant money to states that refuse to cooperate with federal immigration authorities. The 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals in New York overturned a lower court ruling that stopped the administration's 2017 move to withhold grant money from the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program, which dispenses over $250 million a year to state and local criminal justice efforts. "Today's decision rightfully recognizes the lawful authority of the Attorney General to ensure that Department of Justice grant recipients are not at the same time thwarting federal law enforcement priorities," a DOJ spokesman said in a statement. "The grant conditions here require states and cities that receive DOJ grants to share information about criminals in custody. The federal government uses this information to enforce national immigration laws--policies supported by successive Democrat and Republican administrations." "All Americans will benefit from increased public safety as this Administration is able to implement its lawful immigration and public safety policies," the statement said. The latest decision conflicts with rulings from other appeals courts across the country concerning sanctuary policies, indicating a Supreme Court review is ultimately likely. New York City and liberal states including New York, Washington, Massachusetts and Connecticut sued the government, and the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York backed them - ordering the money be released and stopping the government from putting immigration-related conditions on grants. But the appeals court ruled that it "cannot agree that the federal government must be enjoined from imposing the challenged conditions on the federal grants here at issue." "These conditions help the federal government enforce national immigration laws and policies supported by successive Democratic and Republican administrations," the court ruled. "But more to the authorization point, they ensure that applicants satisfy particular statutory grant requirements imposed by Congress and subject to Attorney General oversight." It also disagreed with the district court's claim that the conditions intrude on powers reserved only to states, noting that in immigration policy the Supreme Court has found that the federal government maintains "broad" and "preeminent" power. The ruling marks a key win for the administration in its efforts to crack down on the continued use of "sanctuary" policies that limit local law enforcement cooperation with federal immigration authorities in order to shield illegal immigrants from deportation. The Heritage Foundation's Mike Howell, a former member of Department of Homeland Security's Office of Legal Counsel, told Fox News that the ruling is potentially an important development considering the dependence of states like New York on DOJ grant money. "When you look at the amount of money that flows in via grants generally, the federal government has a lot of power over states and localities," he said. "If you open the door to the federal government being able to condition that grant money, it's a huge deal." Sanctuary policies generally forbid local law enforcement from honoring detainers -- requests from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) that they be alerted to of an illegal immigrant's release from custody so they can be be picked up by ICE and put through deportation proceedings. Proponents of the policies claim it makes cities safer because it encourages illegal immigrants to cooperate with police without fear of deportation. But the Trump administration has been relentlessly pushing back by highlighting cases in which criminals are released onto the streets only to re-offend. It has also deployed a series of measures to combat the practice, including deploying elite Border Patrol agents to sanctuary cities to help ICE track down and detain illegal immigrants. The Justice Department recently announced a slew of measures, and President Trump has called on Congress to pass legislation that would allow victims of crimes committed by illegal immigrants to sue sanctuary cities and states. "Not one more American life should be stolen by sanctuary cities; they're all over the place and a lot of people don't want them," Trump said at the State of the Union address this month.

Horrific video footage emerges of car tumbling through garden

Footage of a shocking car crash in Co Antrim has been released in a bid to urge drivers to "slow down in the area at all times". TUV councillor Stewart McDonald released the yesterday which shows a car travelling along the Townhill Road in Portglenone before it strikes a wall in a housing development. It then hits another vehicle before tumbling across a garden. Police said two people were taken to hospital for treatment to injuries following the crash on Saturday afternoon. Mr McDonald said the footage is a "wakeup call to us all". "What if a child had been out playing in what they had every right to expect was a safe space? We could, so easily, be talking about a life lost," he said. "I would appeal to everyone to slow down in the area at all times but to take special care during the frosty weather when the roads can be treacherous. There is a need for everyone to take heed to the warning which this film provides. Otherwise a tragedy is only a matter of time". A PSNI spokesman said they are aware of a two-vehicle road traffic collision in the Mount Pleasant area of Portglenone at around 1pm on Saturday. "Officers attended the scene along with colleagues from the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service," he said. "Two people - the driver and passenger of one of cars - were taken to hospital for treatment to injuries.

Robber spray paints store clerk

Gastonia Police are searching for a man who robbed a convenience store and then spray painted a clerk last week. The robbery happened last Tuesday evening at the Kingsway off Bessemer City Road. In surveillance video, the suspect is wearing what appeared to be a surgical mask and gloves. The store's manager, Michelle Pheagin, said the clerk was not injured. She said none of the green paint sprayed by the suspect got into the clerk's eyes, but it did get onto her left hand. However, Pheagin said her employee is still shaken up by the robbery. "To [the robber], it's just something real quick, to grab some quick money," she said. "But to [the clerk], this is lifelong now. This will always haunt her." Before he left, Pheagin said the suspect apologized to the clerk. "He's saying, 'I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I promise you'll never see me again,'" Pheagin said. According to Pheagin, a customer was pumping gas when the robbery happened, but the driver wasn't paying attention.

Body camera captures Ada County deputy's (mostly losing) battle with turkeys

The Ada County Sheriff's Office posted a video to Facebook on Tuesday documenting Deputy Bryce Bienz's struggle to clear three big turkeys out of the road. Patrick Orr, spokesman for the Ada County sheriff's office, said Bienz had just finished giving a driver a warning on Eagle Road when the turkeys approach that driver's car. The driver negotiated around the turkeys, and Bienz decided to get them out of the road so they wouldn't cause a crash. That where the footage, recorded on his body camera, picks up. It shows Bienz approaching the turkeys in the two-lane road. "Hey, go home," he tells the turkeys in the video, waving his arms. "Go home! Go home!" The turkeys did not take the commands very well. Gobbling loudly, they started running toward Bienz, who then took out his baton and smacked it against the road. He yelled at the turkeys to get back, but they were not having it. The turkeys followed Bienz to his vehicle as he laughed and tried in vain to get them out of the road. The turkeys continued to gobble, and at one point it in the video it appears that Bienz does as well. "Will you guys just get out of the road?" he asks the turkeys about two minutes into the video. A caption then pops up on the video, telling the viewer that "the negotiation lasts for another minute or so, but they just aren't cooperating." The video shows a truck approaching from the other direction, and the driver asks the deputy if he needs any help. But then the turkeys just start running toward Bienz again. "Get out of the road," he tells them, laughing. After Bienz eventually climbed into his vehicle, still laughing, the turkeys were still in the road or right beside it. "Those guys are angry," Bienz says. In its caption with the video, the Sheriff's Office says that it's just "a reality of law enforcement" that sometimes deputies come across those who aren't excited to see them. "By the end, these things usually work themselves out," the post reads. "Sometimes, however, they run up against hard-cases who just aren't interested in listening, or talking, or anything, really. Last Sunday was one of those days for Dep. Bryce Bienz." Orr said it took about four minutes to get the turkeys off the road fully. "It would be hard to say anybody learned anything from this incident," he wrote in an email.

Standard blue cast to Ektachrome film and , yes whippersnappers, video didn't capture audio back then unless you had a sound camera and bought the more expensive magnetic striped film for it. (I do have a STEREO Canon camera in my video museum here.) So this boring kids soccer game comes rolling along and then a formation of six Warthogs flies over head. Wicked, eh? Nice that the cameraman captured them but there wasn't any audio of them. Bummer central. Searched my audio Fx collection to come across 3 separate A-10 clips. An unimaginative editor would have simply laid them in and be done with it but a savvy editor with an eye and ear for detail alters the decibel levels slightly between the jump cuts.

The family was rushing to the hospital to save little Elikai when New Mexico State Police officer Mario Herrera heard a call for help. Dash camera video showed Officer Herrera racing through Espanola to get to the baby boy in time. When he arrived, Herrera performed CPR on the infant and revived him.

Body camera video shows arrest of 6-year-old girl at Orlando school

Body camera recorded by an Orlando school resource officer shows a distraught, sobbing 6-year-old girl being restrained with zip ties and pleading with the officer as she's led to a patrol car outside her school. The arresting officer, Dennis Turner, was later fired by the Orlando Police Department following the September arrest of the student. The charges against the girl were dropped and her record was expunged. Orlando Police Department officials previously declined a public records request to release the body camera video showing Kaia Rolle's arrest at Lucious and Emma Nixon Academy on Sept. 19, 2019, citing student privacy issues, however, the family's attorney was given a copy and shared it with local news outlets. The 6-year-old was arrested after school staff she said she had a temper tantrum at school. Kaia's grandmother, Meralyn Kirkland, previously told News 6 her granddaughter was acting out in class, a side effect of a lack of sleep from a medical condition, so she was sent to the office. While Kaia was there, a staff member grabbed her wrists in order to calm her down and that's when she lashed out and kicked, according to Kirkland. Turner wrote in Kaia's arrest report that Beverly Stoute, whom he identified as an assistant principal, was the victim in the case and she wanted to press charges because Kaia kicked her on the legs and punched her arms several times. School officials later said in a statement neither Stoute or anyone else from the school said they wanted to press charges. Body camera video shows school staff questioning the arrest of Kaia and obviously concerned for her wellbeing. The video starts as the school resource officer walks into an office along with the OPD transport officer, where a school staff member is reading a book to the girl. "Stand up," Turner tells the girl. "What are those for?" Kaia said, beginning to cry and looking down at the zip ties. The child is shaking and crying as she's walked to the Orlando police patrol car, pleading with the transport officer. "Please, give me a second chance," she said. "Please, let me go." Turner thanks the officer who came to take Kaia for booking and then walks back into the school, asking the employee who was reading to Kaia if she's alright because she's wiping away tears. "I'm upset but I'm good," she said. Other school employees are asking where Kaia is being taken. Turner describes the juvenile processing center as "just a bunch of kids in there." "She's going to be picked up and home in a couple of hours," he said. "The restraints, are they necessary?" an employee said. "If she were bigger she'd be wearing regular handcuffs," Turner replies, adding he previously arrested a 7-year-old. Turner said out of the 6,000 people he's arrested, Kaia "now has broken the record" as the youngest person he's arrested. Kaia was fingerprinted and had her mugshot taken but charges were never officially filed, according to State Attorney Aramis Ayala. Per OPD policy, if children are under 12 years old, an officer must get approval from a watch commander to make an arrest. Turner was fired for violating department policy. The officer seen in the video taking Kaia away in the patrol car was unaware protocol was not followed, according to the department. Kaia was one of two 6-year-old's arrested by Turner on Sept. 19. No charges were ever officially filed against either child. The young students' arrests garnered local and national outcry.

Ohio troopers' 100 mph chase through Strongsville, Brunswick ends in crash, arrests

Ohio Highway Patrol troopers arrested two men with several fake IDs and credit cards after a high-speed chase that ended with troopers crashing into the men's SUV on Pearl Road in Brunswick. The chase began after the men sped away from a trooper who said he "smelled weed" in their SUV at a rest stop on the Ohio Turnpike, according to the highway patrol. Larel Littleton, of Edinburgh, Indiana, and Kijuan Clemons, of Riverdale Illinois, face several felony charges including counterfeiting, identity theft, obstructing official business, fleeing and eluding and tampering with evidence after their Feb. 9 arrest. But neither man is accused of using or possessing drugs. Littleton, 28, is being held in Cuyahoga County Jail on $250,000 bond after his initial appearance in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court last week. Clemons, 24, was released after posting 10 percent of a $50,000 bond after his first appearance. The case against the men was bound over to a county grand jury for consideration of felony charges. Dashboard camera released to cleveland.com this shows the chase reached speeds of more than 100 mph on both the county's highways and along Pearl Road through Strongsville, Brunswick and approaching Medina. Sgt. Ray Santiago, a spokesman for the patrol's Cleveland post, said the entire pursuit will be reviewed to ensure troopers followed pursuit policies. Cleveland's police department which generally only allows its officers to chase suspects of violent crimes, but troopers do not have such restrictions. Lt. Craig Cvetan said supervisors monitor pursuits and take into account the seriousness of the crime that precipitated the chase, the amount of traffic, road and weather conditions and whether troopers know the identity of the suspects.

Newburgh city police unions on Friday accused City Councilman-at-Large Omari Shakur of making threats and using "abusive" vulgar language toward a police detective and another officer during an incident Tuesday. The Police Superior Officers Association, a union for high-ranking Newburgh officers, said in a statement that Shakur told a detective, "I'm your (expletive) boss," and threatened to run over another uniformed officer, telling him to "pull your gun out (expletive) 'cause I'm getting ready to go at you." Shakur, elected to his council position in November, did not respond Friday to multiple phone calls from the Times Herald-Record requesting comment. Efforts to reach city police Chief Doug Solomon were unsuccessful Friday. Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA) suffered a legal setback after losing a major lawsuit he had filed. "A federal judge has tossed out a racketeering lawsuit House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes filed last year against the private investigation firm at the heart of the Trump-Russia saga," Politico reported Friday evening. "Alexandria, Virginia-based U.S. District Court Judge Liam O'Grady's two-page order made short work of Nunes' suit, which sought $9.9 million in damages from Fusion GPS, its founder Glenn Simpson and a nonprofit watchdog group, Campaign for Accountability," Politico explained. "The judge also signaled that pressing on with the legal battle could result in sanctions against Nunes and his attorney, Steven Biss."

Murder Victim And Her Killer

Sex therapist and author Dr. Amie Harwick, 38, died on Saturday after police found her gravely injured outside her Hollywood Hills home. On Tuesday, the Los Angeles County coroner's office released a report declaring the cause of death a homicide; they also said she had fallen from a third-story balcony. The news is making headlines not only because Harwick used to date Price Is Right host Drew Carey but because of tragic, frustrating details surrounding her murder: Harwick had reportedly filed two restraining orders against ex-boyfriend Gareth Pursehouse, 41, the most recent of which had only just expired. Friends report that a chance encounter between Pursehouse and Harwick at a party in January may have set the violence against Harwick in motion. And now court documents unearthed from the restraining order filed by Harwick show that she suffered horrific abuse at the hands of Pursehouse.The L.A. Times reports that Hernando Chaves, a friend of Harwick's and a fellow sex therapist, claims Harwick had run into Pursehouse at an event in January. "It was the absolute worst possible luck," he said, and the meeting with Pursehouse seemed to "reignite his obsessive preoccupation with her." Another friend, Vera Duffy, said Harwick had recounted that when Pursehouse saw her, he "just went ballistic. He lost it. He made a scene."According to her website, Harwick, a former Playboy model, held a B.A. in psychology from California Polytechnic University and a M.F.A. in clinical psychology (with an emphasis on marriage and family therapy) from Pepperdine University in Malibu. She worked with clients who suffered from a range of conditions, including "anxiety, depression, sexually exploited teenagers, juvenile sex offenders, children with trauma, court-mandated adults, divorce, sexual identity issues, chronic pain, sex addiction, bipolar disorder, displaced adolescents, and domestic violence," it reads.
