Julian Alaphilippe surprisingly maintained his yellow jersey after a surprising win in the individual time trial on Friday. He was leading from the first time checks, and on the final short, but very steep climb he gained several seconds on his rivals, going at an incredible speed. Many now speculate how Alaphilippe - normally known for his strength in one day races - suddenly looks to be the strongest rider of the Tour in both time trial and in the mountains.
