The U.S. House of Representatives on Wednesday passed a bill that would expand background checks for gun sales to include firearm purchases at gun shows and over the internet, a measure likely to face Senate and White House opposition. At a news conference Tuesday, gun control advocate Gabby Giffords spoke in favor of the measure. Republican congressman Steve Scalise spoke against it. Both are victims of gun violence.
