Case against man charged in LA synagogue ramming attack suspended over mental issues: Court examining mental health of Mohamed Abdi Mohamed, who is accused of attempting to run over Jewish men leaving services. Officials say criminal proceedings against a Seattle man accused of trying to run over two Jewish men outside a Los Angeles synagogue have been suspended amid questions about his mental competency. The Los Angeles Times on Friday cited records that show Mohamed Abdi Mohamed was diagnosed with schizophrenia in 2015. The newspaper said the man has been treated at mental health facilities in Washington state twice in recent years. Prosecutors said a mental competency hearing is scheduled December 14. Mohamed is charged with assault with a deadly weapon. Police say he yelled hateful remarks at two men exiting Congregation Bais Yehuda on November 23, made a U-turn and drove at the pair, who were on a sidewalk. Nobody was hurt. He was arrested after crashing into another car in the largely Jewish Wilshire-area.
