'Hacker' turns traffic light into street disco
This is the hilarious moment workmen hacked into traffic lights and turned them into a street disco. The maintenance men arrived at the crossroads junction in Bukidnon, the Philippines, on July 27, to install CCTV. But when the music started blaring from a nearby truck, the lads could not resist using the computer system to create a set of disco traffic lights. The Greek fire service says it has been able to identify 70 of those who died in last week's devastating wildfires. At least 92 people perished in the blazes, but it's feared this figure could rise. Fourteen people are still missing. Last night, a week after the fires broke out, hundreds of people attended a vigil in front of the Greek parliament. The government has announced an action plan, but people are asking how a disaster of this scale was possible and are demanding change. On Monday (July 30), Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras made an unannounced visit to Mati, one of the worst-hit areas. There, he spoke to engineers and rescue workers, but didn't make a public statement. Instead, he tweeted - in Greek - about his quote "indescribable grief" and "immense respect" for those who tackled the blazes and for the people now involved in the post-fire recovery and restoration work. But he's been criticised for his government's response to the disaster and the visit to Mati prompted further anger from opposition politicians. Nicaragua's president Daniel Ortega was defiant in an interview with Euronews, insisting he is the only leader who can save the country from being taken over by drug traffickers. The controversial president told Euronews's Oscar Valero: He will not allow elections until they are due in 2021 to avoid creating a precedent That the death toll from protests against his rule has been exaggerated That polls showing the strength of the opposition is misleading and a "good portion" of the country supports him That gangs of masked men accused of violence against civilians are in fact volunteer police Major cities and towns of Nicaragua have been in the grip of violent protests since a violent crackdown on demonstrations against pension reform in April. Ortega says the death toll is 195 people, while the Nicaraguan Center for Human Rights put it at 400. The US and the opposition are both demanding elections but Ortega is adamant he will remain for his full mandate. Asked whether he would consider snap elections he said: "No, no. The opposition has told me, they have even told me that I have to leave now, they have shouted at me that on April 19. I think it would be a very serious precedent for the good of the country. If another government arrives then the [Sandinista National Liberation] Front would have the right to stop the country and ask the government to leave the following day. We would be setting a precedent.... it would be a country in anarchy." "To follow that path is to open the door to anarchy in the country. A broken Nicaragua would be taken over by drug trafficking," he added. He also said that responsibility for the current situation rested with Washington: "The truth is that we are facing a powerful enemy that intervened militarily in Nicaragua, which is the United States..." WATCH: Germany's farmers urge government to act as heatwave threatens billions in losses
German officials will meet later today to discuss financial aid for farmers as record temperatures and prolonged droughts threaten billions in damages to crops and livestock. Farmers are calling on the government to declare a state of emergency as Northern and Eastern regions struggle to cope with the dry spell. Some of the worst affected areas haven't seen any rainfall since April and with today predicted to be the hottest day on record so far, conditions aren't looking to improve just yet. Those farmers worst hit by the severe weather conditions have urged the government to act to compensate them as they say 30 percent of their annual harvest has been destroyed and losses are threatening their livelihood. Euronews correspondent Jessica Saltz spent the day on a farm in the Trebbin district of Germany - one of the areas worst affected by droughts. In her report she spoke to local farmer Thomas Gaebert who manages around 4,000 hectares of farmland and worries that almost half of that could now be lost. He said: "Normally the entire field should be covered with small rape plants... but at this moment there are just some weeds, you don't see any or less rape here on this field." Should this extreme weather continue, crops are not the only thing at risk. Mr Gaebert also worries that a lack of maize and grass will have a negative impact on his livestock as food supplies for cows are running seriously low. "At the moment no-one of my neighbours, farmers, would buy any cows because everyone has the same problem. I have neighbours who have reduced the number of their cows because they cannot sell it... they have to slaughter the cows. I hope that this is not an option we have to go to", he said. The German Farmers Association will meet members of the Agricultural Ministry in Berlin later today to try to come up with some sort of action plan.

Protesting Nationality Law, hundreds gather in Tel Aviv to learn Arabic in 'The biggest Arabic lesson in the world'
Some 700 people gathered in Habima Square in Tel Aviv on Monday in order to learn Arabic together as a show of protest against the Knesset's recent passing of the controversial Nationality Law. Israel passed the nationality bill into law earlier this month to declare that Israel is the homeland of the Jewish people with Hebrew as it's official language, and Arabic as a language with a uniqe stattus. This new law has stoked anger among critics who argue it is racist. Organizers of the gathering in Habima Square, which was dubbed "The biggest Arabic lesson in the world", said it was intended to make the Arabic language widespread in the public. During the event, a number of short lessons were given on Arabic phrases and words. Arabic and Hebrew songs were also sung by famous artists. "It is important for us to point out and say that the Arabic language cannot be annulled," said Nadya Masallah who organized the event. "There are residents here who live and speak this language, and we have to maintain it and strengthen it and continue to work so that the Arabic language will be here." Masallah's children study in a bilingual school which she says strengthens the idea of coexistence. "The Arabic language is something that is extremely essential in this country. This can't be forgotten. This law, if implemented, would have an impact," she said. "The language is our past, our present and our future as is the Hebrew language and we are not giving it up," she said on the stage. "We are here and are continuing our campaign to widen the Arabic language." Ron Gerlitz, the joint chairman of the NGO "Sikkuy" (Chance), an organization that promotes equality and coexistence between Arabs and Jews in Israel, said that he believed the Nationality Law is perhaps the most anti-Israel law that has ever been legislated in Israel. "There are many people here, both Jews and Arabs, who came to protest against this law and our protest is done through teaching Arabic and it is aimed against this law and against the downgrading of the status of the Arabic language," he said, describing the demonstration as a wonderful thing. American tourist's body found after beach drowning in Tel Aviv, named as University of Kentucky student TeNiya Jones
An American tourist whose body was found Monday morning washed up on the shore of the Mediterranean Sea after she went missing in a late-night swim on Saturday has been named as University of Kentucky student TeNiya Jones. Jones, a 19-year-old biology major with a minor in Islamic studies, was on a weekend visit to Israel from Jordan, where she was enrolled in a 7 week exchange program. She was due to return home to Fort Myers, Florida, in a week. A statement from the university said that Jones had disappeared off a beach at the Tel Aviv suburb of Bat Yam on Saturday. She had entered the water with two friends and was pulled in by currents. Rescue forces, including divers, had been scouring the coast until her body washed up in Tel Aviv early Monday. The university said Jones was part of a group of exchange students in the region to study Arabic. Watch: Could Zimbabwe see its first change of power since independence?
Zimbabwe has closed its polls and counting is underway in the country's' first ever election without Robert Mugabe on the ballot paper. Votes aren't officially going to be announced until the 4th August but there are rumours in the country that it could come much earlier. Opposition leader Nelson Chamisa tweeted that after 10,000 polling station counts - his party have done "exceedingly well". Chamisa had already said he would contest the vote if his party were not the outright winners. Popular amongst Zimbabwe's youth, Nelson Chamisa's MDC Alliance party has invigorated the campaign. Turn-out was high as the country chooses what could be its fourth leader since gaining independence in 1980. Zimbabwe's third President, Emerson Mnangagwa had promised a free and fair election after ousting Robert Mugabe last November. If Mnangagwa does not take the vote - it will be the first time in Zimbabwe's 38-year history that the political party Zanu-PF will not be in power. Zanu-PF, however still have wide support across the country with Mugabe's former party representing the end of colonial ties and white-minority rule. The result of this election looks set to reveal a lot about Mugabe's relevance in modern Zimbabwe. Surprising many, however, Mugabe appeared to come out in support of Nelson Chamisa's MDC Alliance party the day before the vote saying he could not vote for "those who tormented" him.

Battles for Syria | July 30th 2018 | SAA takes control of the border with occupied Golan Heights
For the first time since 2014, Syria's entire border with the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights has been declared jihadi-free after both the jihadi and Islamic State (ISIS) terrorists conceded their last positions. According to a military report from the Daraa Governorate, the Syrian Arab Army's 4th Armored Division was able to seize the Islamic State's last border points this afternoon, following a fierce battle with the terrorist group's Jaysh Khaled bin Walid faction.Meanwhile, at the Shajarah front, the Syrian Arab Army's Tiger Forces branch overpowered the remaining Islamic State terrorists at this key town, resulting in the capture of the latter's last major stronghold in the Daraa Governorate. With the border of the occupied Golan Heights cleared and Shajarah liberated, the Syrian Arab Army is on the verge of seizing the last 50 square kilometers of territory that is still under the occupation of the Jaysh Khaled bin Walid forces. Once this last Islamic State pocket is cleared, the Syrian Arab Army will have full control of the Yarmouk Basin region and the entire Daraa Governorate for the first time since 2011.

July 29 Turkish President Erdogan during his recent visit to Johannesburg for the BRICS summit (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) said that he would not object to his country's entry into the group, writes the website of the Turkish newspaper Hurriyet . "If you accept us on this platform, then it will turn into BRICST," the newspaper quotes an excerpt from the conversation of the Turkish leader with journalists earlier this week. "H"urriyet" notes that, according to Erdogan, the leaders of the BRICS countries liked his proposal. "In particular, China says it is in favor of expanding, I saw that they are all thinking about including other countries in their platform, they are not against it," the Turkish president said. Erdogan stressed that "together with the five countries we all belong to the G20 and I hope that they will take the necessary measures so that we can take a place in the BRICS." Spanish taxi drivers call strikes nationwide over Uber and Cabify
Hundreds of taxi drivers in Barcelona and Madrid have said that they intend to carry on their industrial action over private driver services such as Uber. Last week protests were held across the country with some cases of violence reported. Taxi drivers staged stoppages on some major routes in Barcelona, including the city centre and El Prat airport. At the weekend, taxi drivers in Madrid announced a "spontaneous" and indefinite strike, calling for restrictions on the number of licenses granted to private operators. Other wildcat strikes have been reported in locations across the country.

California wildfires kill six
Six people have died in California, including a great- grandmother and her two great-grandchildren, as wildfires ravage the state. Thousands of firefighter are battling the blaze, and 17 helicopters are dropping water in an attempt to dampen the fires. 70 year old Melody Bledsoe, and her great grand-children James and Emily were confirmed dead on Saturday. 7 other people remain missing. At the Carr Fire in Redding, firefighters are working around the clock to prevent further destruction and loss of life. CalFire Division Chief Chris Anthony says that the teams are doing their best to tackle the blaze: "We're trying to get the heavy fuels down away from the line so we'll have less chance of embers crossing the line." The conditions the firefighters are facing are unprecedented, a mix of "incredibly hot temperatures, steep terrain and heavy wind". For the Fire Chief, conditions are dangerous: "Extreme is not even the right adjective to use any more it is just an understatement because fire is so explosive now in California". Firefighters have a selection of tools at their disposal when challenging the spread. They light backfires, which allow controlled burning, before quenching the flames from the air using specialised aircraft. With hundreds of homes reduced to rubble, firefighters are working in rotation of shifts up to 36 hours long in order to secure the safety of the general public.

A man sat on top of a moving car in Anhui province on July 26, prompting a police chase that lasted more than 12 kilometres before the driver of the vehicle finally gave up. That's one way to use your hand luggage allowance... This Chinese passenger was seen waiting for his flight with two huge bin bags stuffed with crips. The flyer was sitting at the Don Mueang airport in Bangkok, Thailand last Friday night (July 27) at the gate for a plane to Chongqing, China, at 8.55pm. He appeared to have taken the chance to stock up the savoury snacks having developed a taste for them while on a holiday to the neighboring Asian country. The man didn't have any other carry-on luggage for the three-hour long flight apart from the stashes of crisps and a carrier bag from duty-free. Holidaymaker Randolph Frost from Hammersmith, West London, who recorded the clip, said: ''He won't need an in-flight meal. There were enough crisps there to last him all month. ''I suppose it's a good way to use your hand luggage allowance. Those crisps wouldn't stand a chance in the hold. ''I waited and watched him board the flight at Gate 1. Crocodile bites trainer's arm in front of horrified spectators
This is the terrifying moment a furious crocodile bites a trainer's arm in front of dozens of horrified spectators at a show. The reptile handler, named Tao, 45, was performing the stunt at the Phokkathara zoo in Chiang Rai, northern Thailand, in front of around 100 people. As the bandana-wearing zoo-keeper reached inside the animal's jaws, he began pushing deeper down the croc's throat - looking at the audience and telling the announcer to stop the music. But the reptile struck back - suddenly chomping down and clamping its teeth around Tao's forearm before shaking him violently from side to side. The performer was heard letting out an agonising howl before freeing himself and staggering away with blood dripping on the wet tiles. The astonishing scene was captured by Khun Phusawit, 35, who had been visiting the Phokkathara Crocodile Farm and zoo with wife Nok and their two children. Phusawit said: ''The show was very good until that happened. I hope that the man is OK and he gets better soon. ''Everybody was shocked when it happened. The kids were a little bit scared. ''I've watched the clip back many times to see how it happened and the crocodile seems to not like having the hand in his mouth.'' The owner of the crocodile park, Dong Wittawat, said: ''The performer is fine, he was treated at the farm with bandaging. ''He loves crocodiles and he will be working again soon in the next two weeks.''

A rather peculiar sight was spotted in a city located in Sichuan province, China, after a road buckled due to heavy rain: a pumpkin was seen growing in the cracks of the asphalt. Chinese farmer treats goats to half a watermelon each as temperatures soar
Dogs aren't the only animals that enjoy snacking on watermelon to beat the summer heat - goats do too, one Chinese farmer in Shaanxi province demonstrates. According to local media, Mr Wong brings seven goats from the hillside to the city, where he makes and sells fresh goat milk. With especially high temperatures in Xi'an recently, the farmer was afraid the goats would not be used to the hot weather compared to the mountainous climate they reside in, so he decided to give each of them half a watermelon to help them cool down. Hello and thank you for taking the time to consider this opinion of sorts. It is in regards to human beings acting often like victims in this world while perpetuating monstrous in scale transgressions against other creatures in this world and against the world itself in some ways. Just as well i talk about my own interpretation of the great manifestation of all evil and wrong doing as deemed by the bible that calls it the "Devil" and the mark of that being which is 666. Remember that all of us have a choice. Despite how we live our lives or have led them in the past, the greatest choices you make are in the ever present. Choosing the beasts world doesn't make you evil but it does keep you in perpetuity within the beasts chaos and uncertainty, filled with fear and desire, the beast cannot rise above nature, the beast can only become aware but perpetually be chained to the fires that gives it credence through flesh. Conquer the Ego, the Fire made Flesh, there you will find the door past life and death. I would like to point out, as i do in the video audio, this is just my opinion, and i will defend my opinion to the extent that i find to be reasonable, logical and rational, and anyone why disagrees can feel free to speak their mind BUT if you attack my opinion as though i am trying to define your personal life with it then i will not argue or speak with you, only those who present themselves respectfully and with consideration to my opinion will i acknowledge with patience and consideration back. I know many questions but few answers, don't talk to me as though i am trying to rewrite reality as we collectively have come to know it thus far. The incident occurred at a village near H. D. Kote in Karnataka, India, on July 28. A farmer had fenced his farm with barbed wire to prevent wild animals from a nearby forest straying in. On the night of July 27, a leopard tried to sneak in to steal a chicken but got trapped. The villagers heard the leopard growling angrily through the night. The next morning they saw the trapped animal and alerted local forest officials. "None dared to get close as the animal was desperately trying to free itself. It could have attacked many people if it had succeeded," said Nayaka. The rescue was a challenge as wild growth had covered the barbed wire fence and hidden the leopard making it difficult for anyone to take a clean shot at it. An official mustered up the courage to get close and shot the leopard as it emerged out of the green cover to charge at him. The animal was successfully tranquilised and then freed from the barbed wire. It was taken away by the forest officials, who treated it for minor injuries, and later set it free in the nearby forest.

Greece grapples with grief after devastating wildfires
The Greek government is facing criticism as the extent of the damage from the worst wildfires in recent memory becomes clear. Fire officials say the number of dead stands at 91, while 25 people are still missing one week after flames swept through the Athens region. Our correspondent Bryan Carter reports from Mati, where the land is scorched and many buildings are reduced to ashes. There, he joined the Hellenic Red Cross on their search and rescue operations. It was, as he described it, "a gruelling mission: finding missing people in the surrounding areas devastated by the flames." Angelo Chastios, the Head of the Red Cross Samaritans of Athens told he'd never seen anything of this scale in his time at the organisation. "As I have talked with other colleagues, with volunteers, they are only a few that have seen this kind of disaster for the last 20 years." As Greece grapples with grief, Mayor of Athens Giorgos Kaminis said: "I personally I see those kinds of crisis also as opportunities to change the way that we construct, the way that we build our communities, the way we train people, the way that we are ready to confront such crisis must change. And I think this time it will change." Change is what Greeks are asking for, to prevent against tragedies of this scale happening again.

Teen activist turned icon released
Palestinian teen activist Ahed Tamimi and her have been released from an Israeli prison. Tamimi became a household name after her arrest while she served an 8-month-sentence, celebrating her 17th birthday behind bars. Last December, Ahed Tamimi, then aged 16, was arrested after footage of her slapping and kicking a fully-armed Israeli soldier in the occupied West Bank went . She was responding to news that her younger cousin had been shot in the face by an Israeli soldier, and was in a critical condition. Since then, Tamimi has risen to prominence as a symbol of resistance for Palestinians and a provocateur for Israeli settlers. Her arrest has garnered media attention from across the globe and shone a spotlight on Israel's detention of minors: a policy heavily-criticised by human rights groups. After laying a wreath at the tomb of Yasser Arafat, Ahed Tamimi was quickly back in a combative mood, voicing her anger at the presence of an Israeli settlement next to her West Bank home. "First of all," she told partner NBC, "I don't just want this settlement to be gone... I want the whole occupation to end. The issue needs to be solved at its root. We must aim to end the occupation because when the occupation is over the settlement will be gone and so will the checkpoints and the entire wall. Our main problem is the occupation" In a packed first day of freedom, she met with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas. She went on to outline her vision for building a better future for Palestinians "I tell my generation that the most important thing for us now is education," she told NBC. "Education is the only tool that will enable us to achieve our own goals and to help develop our country. We need to link the national struggle with the social one in order to live - after the occupation is over - in a democratic state and with equality between men and women."

Meeting with US official ended with positive signals: Taliban
A Taliban official says a meeting between the militant group and a senior US diplomat to discuss a possible ceasefire ended with very positive signals. The Taliban official said the two sides agreed to meet again soon and resolve the Afghan conflict through dialog. He added that they also discussed Taliban participation in the Afghan government. According to the official, the talks were held without the presence of Afghan government envoys. The meeting was reportedly held in Qatar last week. The US media say the White House has ordered American diplomats to seek direct negotiations with the Taliban. The US has failed to end the group's militancy since it attacked Afghanistan 17 years ago.

Flying over the Carr Fire in a Calif. National Guard plane
While people are doing everything they can to get away from the devastating wildfires in California, new video shows what it's like for the first responders who are rushing into the fire zone to battle the blaze. The California Air National Guard took to Facebook to share footage shot from the cockpit of a C-130 aircraft dropping flame retardant on the Carr Fire in Redding, California. In the clip, the C-130 flies behind another firefighting aircraft as it navigates the smoky skies above the fire in Shasta County. From the cockpit, multiple hot spots can be seen burning in the forest beneath the plane. The Carr Fire, which has grown to nearly 90,000 acres, destroyed hundreds of structures and killed six people as of Sunday afternoon, is just one of the many blazes burning across the Golden State. The large River and Ranch Fires are burning closer to the San Francisco Bay Area, the 53,000-acre Ferguson Fire has temporarily closed Yosemite National Park and the Cranston Fire has burned 13,000 acres in Riverside County closer to Los Angeles, among others.

Fake Russian soldiers 'guard' Trump's Hollywood star
A pair of fake Russian soldiers stood guard at the remains of President Trump's Hollywood Walk of Fame star, days after a man destroyed it with a pickaxe. The two stonefaced men, dressed in olive green uniforms and thick hats, were spotted "protecting" the star on Hollywood Boulevard this week. The guards also reportedly braved the 90 degree California heat in their heavy outfits and were also seen carrying a Russian flag. Austin Clay was arrested by Los Angeles Police for the vandalism after claiming responsibility for the damage. Clay, however, was bailed out of jail by James Otis, a man who previously vandalized the star with a sledgehammer and pickax days before the November 2016 election. A violent brawl broke out between Trump supporters and opponents at the site of the vandalism on Thursday. Footage obtained by TMZ shows protesters chanting "F--- Donald Trump" near the president's destroyed star on one side of the sidewalk. On the other side, a group of Trump supporters stood surrounding what appeared to be a cardboard cut-out of the president. According to TMZ, no arrests have been made. The star, which Trump received in 2007 for his role on NBC's "The Apprentice," was also defaced with spray paint in 2016.

Polls open in Zimbabwe's first post-Mugabe presidential election
Zimbabweans have begun voting in the country's first presidential election not to feature the name of Robert Mugabe on the ballot paper. About 5.5 million people are registered to vote and long queues have been reported outside polling stations. The African country is looking to turn the page after nearly four decades of repressive rule and economic chaos under its founding president. Monday's vote pits President Emmerson Mnangagwa, Mugabe's successor and former enforcer who now says he represents change, against Nelson Chamisa. He's a 40-year-old lawyer who is vying to become Zimbabwe's youngest head of state. Still stirring the political waters, the 94-year-old ex-leader has refused to back his own ZANU-PF party who ousted him in November's de facto coup, when the country's military generals took control and put Mnangagwa into power. Mugabe is thought to have wanted his wife Grace to take over. "I was sacked, from the party I founded. I cannot vote for those who have tormented me," said Mugabe, who came to power after independence in 1980. The lack of support from his old boss now has Mnangagwa accusing Mugabe of striking a deal with his main rival. "The choice is clear: You either work for Mugabe under the guise of Chamisa, or you work for a new Zimbabwe under my leadership and the ZANU-PF. Real change is coming," he said. Mnangagwa - known as "the Crocodile" for his political wiliness - has survived several assassination attempts blamed on Mugabe supporters. Despite the violence, the 75-year-old has spoken about the need for a "democratic space" and is promising economic reforms and jobs. Meanwhile Nelson Chamisa, who is leader of the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) and is standing out among over 20 other presidential candidates is promoting himself as a unifying force and business friendly. "If anything, my biggest task is to make sure that I unite this nation going forward.I must not be gazing into the past," Chamisa said. Above all, voters who are enjoying a new-found freedom not felt under the iron fist of Mugabe, want to see a free and fair election. The opposition has repeatedly alleged irregularities in the register of voters. Hundreds of international observers are in the country to check on proceedings. Many people also wonder if Zimbabwe's establishment, for so long in power, will ever accept an opposition victory. Opinion polls give Mnangagwa a narrow lead over Chamisa. If no candidate wins more than half the votes a runoff will take place on September 8.

South Africa is further removed now from the ideal of a rainbow nation than at any other time since the official end of apartheid in 1994. Extremists are increasingly gaining traction and poisoning the atmosphere, as some incite hatred for short-term political gain. The tide is turning in South Africa. Following the death of Winnie Madikizela-Mandela, South African anti-apartheid politician and activist and the former wife of Nelson Mandela, at the beginning of April, only a handful of the leading anti-apartheid campaigners now remain. South Africa ex-president Jacob Zuma is on trial for corruption. Now younger politicians, unwilling to wait any longer for a redistribution of wealth in South Africa, are making radical demands. They want white farmers to have their land confiscated without compensation. Cyril Ramaphosa, South Africa's new president, has indicated he too would support that. Nevertheless both black and white South Africans say relations between them are worse than ever since the end of apartheid. Most feel that it was only under Nelson Mandela, who would have turned 100 years old on July 18th, that South Africa took genuine steps towards becoming a rainbow nation. We look at a country that carried the hopes of an entire continent back in 1994, but now threatens to break down amid controversy and contradictions. .
