Officer's final sign-off after 36 years of service will warm your heart

After 36 years of service, Hudson police officer Ed Rankin made his final sign-off with dispatchers in Wisconsin on April 24, 2018. In the video, Officer Rankin can be seen saying his final farewell to the dispatchers. "From now on, I'll be on the driving range, not the firing range," Officer Rankin says. "I'll be on the golf course, not the EVOC course. I'll be on the volleyball and tennis courts, not in the municipal and circuits courts. And the only chasers will be beer chasers." "It's been an honor and privilege to serve this community for the last 36 years," Officer Rankin continues. "I'd like to thank my blue family, which includes you dispatchers for all the help in getting me to this day. And now if you'll excuse me, I've got a noon tee time to get to. This is 41-48. 10-42. End of watch. I'm out." Then the dispatcher replies: "It's my pleasure to announce that after 36 years of service, Hudson Officer Rankin, badge 41-48, is retiring today. Thank you, sir, for all of your years of service and protection, and thank you for protecting the city of Hudson. Congratulations and may there be lots of eagles and birdies in your future. 41-48, you're 10-42 at 10:29." Officer Rankin chokes up after hearing the dispatcher's farewell. His partner can be heard saying, "Congratulations, man." "I didn't think it was going to hit me," Officer Rankin replies. Officer Rankin then takes a deep breath and the video ends.
