Why Some U.S. Citizens Won't Wear Masks: Interview With an Expert

In the country that is smashing the world in OCVID-19 infections and deaths, it makes perfect sense that all its citizens would be more than willing to wear protective masks in public to slow down a pandemic. But, no. We are talking about the United States here. This nation forces its young schoolchildren to endure active shooter drills so a few men and women can overcome personal insecurities by owning semi-automatic weapons. Yet it also puts up with these same people while they bitch about wearing a mask to shop at Costco during a pandemic. So, why is this? Why do a small, yet vocal segment of U.S. citizens feel that wearing a protective mask appears more weak than something more obvious, like waving around an AR-15 or chasing down and killing joggers who don't look like them in Brentwood, Georgia? My curiosity led me to find and ask a question of an expert on the subject, Dr. Spencer Dorr of Odinist College: Q: Why can't this group just put on a mask to help protect others and themselves? A: "This group finds relevance in the United States by being accessories to those who let them feel empowered on a large scale, since they wouldn't have any clout otherwise. For example, studies have shown that people who shun education or lack influence are more susceptible to being manipulated to doing the dirty work for a side that makes it easy for them to feel empowered. An enabling figure such as Donald Trump keeps it simple for them to experience self-actualization they would never otherwise achieve. All he has to do is invite them to a rally, tell them to "liberate" a state capitol, deem them as "fine people" at a racist rally, or rid their neighborhoods of other races - and they receive license and worldwide attention. These are easy things for overtly simple, yet desperate people to do. Their lives are instantly changed and have a purpose, and they become loyal to no one except Donald Trump. Think of American inner-city gangs...they give purpose to lives that otherwise don't have much opportunity or confidence. So, to ask these 'fine people' to put on a mask without their master's permission is sacrilegious in their captured psyches. Trump views mask-shucking as a wonderful political tool to help him create an alt-world of the 'way things were,' and it coincides with his followers' inability and unwillingness to change. Trump gains chaos that enables him to obscure his own shortcomings. Unfortunately, his followers don't realize that the ability to adapt is essential for long-term survival, and they will eventually become severely irrelevant and disposable."
