U.S. jobs report whiffs, misses expectations by nearly half

The U.S. economy looked a little less rosy on Friday morning than it had in recent months

The U.S. added 126,000 non-farm payroll jobs last month, well below economists' expectations of close to 250,000. The unemployment rate stayed at 5.5%, according to the report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. March proved to be the worst month for job additions since December 2013.

January and February job numbers were also revised down, although it was not entirely bad news. Bloomberg noted that underemployment — people who are in jobs that are below their qualifications - dipped slightly. Read more...
